Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

We are looking for a rigorous and empathetic Safety By Design Policy practitioner who is passionate about understanding and shaping technology’s impact on our users and society. As a member of the Product Policy organization, you will support our efforts to build and scale safe products in collaboration with a crossfunctional group, focused on Discord’s revenue product portfolio. You will report to the Senior Manager, Safety By Design Policy.

What you'll be doing

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Legal, Design, Business Operations, and other crossfunctional roles to identify safety risks and opportunities in new visible and invisible product changes; work with those teams to build mitigations into the product design and contribute to product strategy.
  • Build and maintain knowledge about Discord’s revenue strategies, product offerings, business metrics, and internal infrastructure. The product portfolio for this role may include, but is not limited to, Nitro features, Server Boosting features, advertising products, third-party revenue products, and creator revenue products.
  • Develop mastery of, and help shape, industry best practices for safe and responsible revenue product development through research and writing.
  • Work closely with the crossfunctional group to evaluate the policy and enforcement impacts on new product changes, and scope the necessary requirements to support those teams.
Support the development of responsible product development content, such as training, guides, talking points, strategies, and presentations, for engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Write user-facing communications to explain our products and safety features through blog posts, Help Center Articles, and other resources.

Please note: Potential exposure to sensitive or graphic content, including but not limited to vulgar language, violent threats, pornography and other graphic images.

What you should have

  • 5+ years of experience working on revenue/commerce products and operations in the context of social tech (communications services; social media; etc).
  • Proven experience addressing issues in responsible product development, trust & safety product strategy, product risk assessment, or developing monetization policies ideally within tech or related industry groups.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education / experience
  • Passion for understanding and mitigating the unintended impact of the online communication services on users and society.
  • Experience working directly with product, engineering, design, research partners, or multiple stakeholders at the same time.
  • Attitude of collaboration, flexibility, and always questioning your assumptions.

Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Relocation assistance may be available.
