Responsibilities:
Create effective, user friendly and visually appealing interfaces. Design the overall functionality of the product in order to ensure a great user experience, iterate upon it in accordance with user-testing.
Experience and Skill Set Requirements
User-centered Content Design (30%)
- Experience designing content to meet user needs and make complex, technical language and process simple to understand
- Ability to discern the right information in the right format for what users need
- Robust experience in writing, editing, and publishing digital content
- Experience in using content management systems, and content production processes to publish content
- Ability to write in plain, clear language that conveys understandable and accessible information
- Expertise with content analysis, auditing, and copyediting pre-written content to align with user needs and relevant best practices
- Possess a designer’s ‘toolkit’ of methods and approaches to deal with various content design challenges that may occur at various stages of a product’s development
- Understanding of government accessibility requirements and design content with consideration for common assistive technologies, such as screenreaders
- Ability to use data, research, and evidence to review and evaluate content and iteratively improve content design
- Consistently and effectively apply content standards and style guidelines to your work
- Understand content lifecycle management and can advocate for it amongst complex groups of product/service stakeholders
- Ability to contribute to content strategies and policies, including creating content patterns or standards
- Ability to produce content concepts and prototyping through a variety of methods - from paper sketches to clickable prototypes
- Ability to UX and Service designers with collaborative research and product design activities, such as user interviews or usability testing
- Practice ego-free design: be open to giving and receiving feedback, collaborating with and supporting other designers
- Utilize pragmatic, thoughtful design approaches; think critically about what value design activities are bringing to a project, and strategize approach based on organizational need rather than following “textbook” solutions
Communications (20%)
- Strong communication skills to prepare research documentation, including but not limited to; reports, reviews, assessments
- Ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively and in a user-friendly manner; maintain a high level of customer service to both internal and external clients
- Ability to communicate content design concepts and prototypes in clear and understandable manner
- Ability to communicate with technical experts and business subject matter experts to elicit key information relevant to user experience, service design, and content design
- High emotional intelligence skills, with ability to discern between various stakeholders’ interests and find reasonable compromises through consensus building
- Strong mentoring and coaching abilities; ability to convey content design concepts and methods to team members and stakeholders outside of design professions
Agile Product Development (15%)
- Experience working in an agile, sprint-based development environment
- Understanding and working knowledge of iterative product development cycles (Discovery, Agile, Beta, Live)
- Experience collaborating and sharing design tasks with multiple designers on complex product deliveries
- Ability to conceptualize design tasks as part of greater product development team; understand the impacts design deliverables have on other aspects of product delivery
- Adaptable, reflective, and responsive to feedback on both delivered work and delivery process
Experience (15%)
- Experience with medium-to-large sized product development / service design projects
- Experience dealing with designing content for services and products that deal with large organizational complexity
- Experience with leading strategy and execution on content design
- Experience with Figma user interface design software
- Experience designing interfaces with a design system
- Experience conducting content audits
- Experience creating content within organizational content standards and style guidelines
- Experience preparing documentation that can be used by professional translators to convert content into other languages
