The Opportunity:

The College of Arts and Sciences at Washington State University Vancouver invites applicants for a full-time, classified position as a Research Aide 2 with the School of the Environment. We seek an individual with demonstrated field experience and enthusiasm for research.

In this position, you will assist with US Bureau of Reclamation-funded and NSF-funded studies of greenhouse gas emissions and nutrient cycling in Pacific Northwest reservoirs. You will also be responsible for sample preparation and processing at the Global Change and Watershed Biogeochemistry Lab at WSU – Vancouver Campus, under the general direction of Dr. John Harrison.

The primary duties in this position include collection, processing, and recording data of biogeochemical samples from regional reservoirs, preparing, maintaining, and calibrating field equipment and supplies, and, in general, assisting with research coordination and implementation. During intensive field campaigns, you will assist in water and gas sample collection and equipment deployment, most of which is conducted via a small motorboat or on-foot.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $3,565 to $4,746 (Steps A - M) | Range 39 | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or science; OR two years of college-level work in engineering or science plus two years of experience equivalent to Research Aide 1, OR four years of experience equivalent to Research Aide 1.

  • Demonstrated experience with field research.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

  • Minimum two years driving experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in biogeochemistry, aquatic ecology or other related field of study strongly preferred.
