Who are we?

Svante is a rapidly growing clean energy technology company making commercial-scale carbon capture and removal a reality and enabling global industries to play offense in the fight against climate change that will accelerate the global transition to a lower-carbon economy.

The growing success of our company is owed to our commitment to our people, our emphasis on our values, and our innovative technology. Passion is put into what we do every day.

Purpose of the Role:

As Project Director, you will lead the development of carbon capture projects, managing commercial relationships with partners, offtakers, and financiers. You’ll apply your technical and financial expertise to guide projects through design, permitting, and operating planning, ultimately driving them to Final Investment Decision (FID) and construction.

In your role as Head of Carbon Markets, you will build and lead Svante’s carbon credit strategy—developing programs for credit creation, registration, verification, and monetization. You’ll work with external advisors and regulatory bodies to establish robust MRV systems and stay ahead of evolving carbon markets in North America, the EU, and beyond. You’ll also support the monetization of key tax credits like the U.S. 45Q and Canada’s CCUS ITC.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • You have at least 10 years of experience in project-based industries such as renewable energy, oil and gas, or other industrial capital projects.
  • You have a background in process or plant engineering, supported by a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience that demonstrates strong technical understanding.
  • You may also hold an MBA, bringing valuable knowledge of finance, business strategy, and carbon market regulations.
  • You have experience with fundraising, whether for projects or companies, and understand the complexities of capital sourcing.
  • You’ve worked in customer-facing roles within technical environments and are familiar with long sales cycles typical of capital-intensive industries.
  • You bring exceptional relationship and stakeholder management skills, with a strong drive to close transactions and business negotiations successfully.
  • You have a solid grasp of capital budgeting, project economics, project finance, and commercial deal-making.
  • You thrive in entrepreneurial settings, helping to build structure and culture while navigating ambiguity and applying strategic frameworks to drive clarity and action.
  • You’re able to prioritize effectively in dynamic, fast-evolving business environments.
  • You possess high technical and financial fluency, paired with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • You bring strong business acumen, negotiation skills, and the ability to influence and align diverse stakeholders.
  • You’re open to travel (up to 40%) for site visits, client engagements, and regular visits to Svante’s headquarters in Burnaby, BC.

What Success looks like in this role:

  • Drive project leadership by negotiating joint venture agreements, overseeing permitting and EPC contracting, managing offtake and carbon credit agreements, and coordinating utilities, insurance, and financing strategies.
  • Act as the primary commercial lead for each project, aligning internal teams across engineering, corporate development, and finance, while managing relationships with host emitters and ensuring alignment with their decision-making processes.
  • Coordinate project delivery by working closely with Svante Solutions and EPC partners to define and implement the project execution framework, and support contract negotiations for technology licensing, OEM models, and performance guarantees.
  • Lead carbon market strategy by building a comprehensive program for carbon credit creation, verification, and monetization. You’ll work with external agencies and Svante’s Government Affairs team to navigate regulatory frameworks and support tax credit monetization.
  • Support broader business development by advising on carbon credit strategies for non-Devco projects and helping qualify high-value opportunities where Svante’s technology has strong potential.
