Role Summary:
We are seeking an exceptional Principal Software Engineer to serve as a technical lead for our Contact Centre Innovation and Engineering Practices team. This role will be instrumental in driving innovation, implementing cloud capabilities, and spearheading technical solutions across our contact centres in Canada, Asia, and the US.
What will you do:
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of complex cloud-based applications and systems
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to development teams
- Conduct code reviews and ensure best practices are applied in software development
- Design complex solutions integrated with AI/ML technologies
- Run workshops with developers and participate in hands-on development work
- Research and pilot the latest technologies and practices, and evaluate benefits for our organization
- Translate business and technical requirements into comprehensive system designs
- Champion a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on design and development of large-scale, multi-tier distributed software systems
- Proven experience leading technical teams and coaching developers
- Strong hands-on coding skills with a wide range of technologies (e.g., Java, Python, APIs)
- Experience in architecting and designing complex, scalable applications and systems
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to assess alternatives, risks, and benefits
- Strong communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with technology trends
Highly Valued Skills:
- Experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS (Lambda, Step Functions)
- Understanding of AI/ML concepts, including LLMs and their integration into applications
- Familiarity with chatbot development concepts, RAG techniques and vector databases
- Experience with full-stack development, from front-end to back-end and cloud services

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
