Job Description:

We are seeking a self‑motivated and energetic engineer to join our firmware and software team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, unit testing, and verification of our industry‑leading Switchtec™ System‑on‑Chip (SoC) PCI Express (PCIe) switching products. You’ll collaborate with team members across multiple sites, working within an agile environment that values technical excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement. 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze product requirements; design, develop, integrate, debug, and verify security features—including secure boot, attestation, and secure manufacturing—as part of production-level PCIe Switch firmware on an SoC platform
  • Collaborate with other firmware teams and interact with chip design, emulation, validation, and application engineering teams on pre-silicon development and post-silicon bring-up, debugging, troubleshooting, and customer support
  • Utilize analyzers, oscilloscopes, probes, built-in firmware tools, logging utilities, and other forensic capture tools to troubleshoot problems
  • Write comprehensive technical documentation and customer user guides
  • Coach junior firmware engineers on design reviews, code reviews, process enforcement, and continuous improvement

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 5 years of embedded firmware development experience
  • Strong proficiency in C and at least one assembly language programming
  • Expert in peripheral driver development for GPIO, I2C/SMBus, I3C, UART, SPI, USB, NOR flash and other common accessories; strong knowledge of SoC, RTOS, multi‑threading, and SMP firmware development
  • Expertise in at least one RISC CPU architecture and its instruction set
  • Familiarity with security standards, specifications, and regulations is preferred, such as FIPS, NIST, DICE, CNSA, or Common Criteria, as well as security architectures and features in embedded systems, including secure boot, attestation, and supply-chain security
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong documentation skills
  • Self‑motivated, team‑oriented, and resourceful, with the ability to achieve goals with minimal supervision

  • Ability to leverage AI‑assisted tools to generate, review, and improve code
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and agile development practices
  • Proven ability to lead cross-site teams and mentor engineers in complex firmware projects

We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. Benefits of working at Microchip

The annual base salary range for this position is $86,000-$186,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
