Summary:
We are currently seeking a Principal Design Researcher to join our growing Product Research Team. This role can be performed from one of our Canadian offices, remotely from the US or Canada, or a combination of both. Some exceptions may apply.
We’re looking for a talented Principal Design Researcher who has a track record of running large-scale, multi-workstream, complex research programs that drive decision-making, prioritization, and strategy with measurable results. We are looking for someone who is well versed — and demonstrates creativity — in a range of research methodologies, such as field studies, interviews, diary studies, participatory workshops, ethnography, surveys, and usability testing. They should also be able to coalesce multiple workstreams, personas, and cross-product journeys into a unified point of view across a portfolio of products. If this is you, we want to hear from you.

As a Principal Design Researcher at Clio, you’ll help product designers, product managers, and engineers build a deep understanding of our customers and their needs.
We are building out our Product Research Team, and are looking for high-performing, creative, and collaborative people that bring care and curiosity to everything they do. What you’ll work on:

Build foundational, canonical insights — such as personas, jobs to be done, customer journey maps, and customer-centric metrics — from a platform/framework point of view

Coalesce the above into cross-product ideal user journeys and overarching portfolio strategy, identifying strategic areas of focus and top-line value drivers
-
Make connections, tight alignment, and cohesive narrative across disparate data — qualitative and quantitative — across the business, including data science, strategy and operations, customer success, marketing, voice of the customer, and more.

Build large-scale research programs that address a multitude of strategic areas of inquiry, owning priorities and scope in alignment with the business

Communicate and activate insights in a way that Influences stakeholders across the organization to drive new customer-centric product ideas and product improvements
What you bring:
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
-
An ability to derive and articulate platform, framework, and design system-level insights, and how they intersect with product insights
-
Experience researching and formulating cross-product user journeys and portfolio strategy
-
Evidence of impactful research programs (e.g., multiple research projects aimed in a strategic direction) with measurable results from having driven portfolio decisions and strategy
-
An ability to derive and articulate platform, framework, and design system-level insights, and how they intersect with product insights
-
Experience conducting research in the generative AI space, and knowledge of how generative AI is fundamentally shifting user experiences

Experience running B2B and B2B2C research, using a range of methods such as field studies, interviews, diary studies, participatory workshops, ethnography, surveys, and usability testing

Experience managing, influencing, and leading cross-functional stakeholders

An ability to incorporate and triangulate qualitative and quantitative data from a range of sources

Skills understanding business dynamics and needs

Experience working on zero-to-one products in the B2B space

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Low ego and open-mindedness

A master’s degree or PhD

A background in quantitative research methods and inferential statistics

Experience not just influencing, but originating strategy

Experience in a range of B2B, from SMB to Mid-Market and beyond

Knowledge and experience in CRM

Experience applying foresight methodologies, e.g., signal/horizon scanning, scenario planning, etc.

The full salary range* for this role is $176,000 to $220,000 to $264,000 CAD.Please note there are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.
*We aim to hire all candidates between the minimum and the midpoint of the full salary range. We reserve the midpoint to the maximum of the salary band for internal employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at Clio. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on individual experience and skillset of the candidate. Please note there are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.
