As a People Operations Specialist at Hiive, you will be a key partner to the People & Culture and Finance teams, driving seamless HR operations and enhancing the employee experience. From ensuring compliance and managing payroll and benefits to shaping workplace policies and supporting onboarding, you’ll play a vital role in fostering a dynamic and well-organized workplace.
In this role, your responsibilities would include:

Managing payroll and benefits administration for the company, including administering, processing, and recording payroll cycles in collaboration with the Finance team, administering enrollments in and changes to benefit programs, and ensuring compliance with local employment laws in both Canada and the USA.

Managing all employee record-keeping, including through the company’s HRIS system.

Administering various elements of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding and offboarding, performance and compensation reviews, and other talent programs.

Maintaining and refining employment policies that promote a safe, inclusive, and flexible work environment.

Turning data into action by generating reports and insights that drive strategic decisions for People & Culture and Finance.

Navigating global talent mobility by supporting immigration processes, including work permit applications, renewals, and compliance.

Jumping in where needed, supporting ad-hoc People & Culture and Finance initiatives that enhance employee experience and operational efficiency.
Required Skills & Experience:
-
3+ years of experience in an HR or People Operations role.

Strong knowledge of payroll administration, benefits, and HRIS systems (e.g., Rippling, Workday, ADP) in Canada.

Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. employment laws, immigration policies, and HR best practices.

Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.

Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a strong sense of urgency and ownership.
Preferred Skills:
-
Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP), or working towards it.

Experience supporting employees in both Canada and the US with strong knowledge of employment laws across multiple Canadian provinces and U.S. states and jurisdictions.
