Job Summary:

The Payment Services Specialist performs a variety of diverse clerical duties involving the processing, reconciliation, balancing, settlement, tracing and investigation of items and processes of some complexity, working in accordance with policies, procedures, rules and confidentiality/security requirements. Certain positions provide customer service to credit unions, other centrals and external clients by responding to queries and assisting with problem resolution. 

A key responsibility of this position for business continuity, as such; working hours may need to occur outside of regular working hours on an ad hoc basis to both meet business needs as well as to conduct testing/training

 

What you'll be doing:  

  • Undertaking various duties relating to the processing of returned items, electronic bill payments, bill payment remittances, bonds, coupons, ATM/POS, automated funds transfers, cash orders, wire transfers, and other such items as defined by management

  • Verifying receipt of data input files from credit unions coordinates the work inflow process and processes and updates files utilizing image transports and specialized computer software 

  • Conducting online validation of information, balancing and reconciling transactions, preparing financial adjustments as required, and processing for settlement following applicable CPA and Network Rules (Interac, Exchange Acculink) and within specified timeframes to avoid loss of recourse and financial liability 

  • Reviewing documents variance reports and other information, analyzing unusual situations, tracing items, and investigating and resolving problems

  • Preparing documentation and posting financial entries to Central 1s automated suspense, general ledger, and central banking system. 

  • Assists with testing of software upgrades and process improvement 

  • Responding in a timely and courteous manner to verbal and written requests from credit unions, financial institutions, corporate clients, vendors, and Central 1 employees for information and assistance in resolving discrepancies, adjustments, traces, and other problems

  • Acting as the intermediary as required between credit unions, other centrals, external clients, and other financial institutions for processing and settlement of various items 

  • Maintaining databases, logs, records, statistics and preparing summary reports for information, billing, and other purposes

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of CPA rules, Network Rules for ATM/POS, FINTRAC reporting, Proceeds of Crime, Anti Money laundering, and Central 1 processes and standards applicable to the work 

  • Days/hours of work are subject to change based on business needs, and flexibility is required. 

What you'll have: 

  • Preferred Community College diploma in business or related discipline including courses in accounting 

  • Experience preferably in retail banking and/or at a secure data center 

  • Knowledge of automated financial systems, clearing and settlement processes, and CPA rules 

  • Strong verbal and written communication and excellent interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to analyze data, interpret reports, and resolves issues using Excel 

  • Great analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills 

  • Solid data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy and speed.  

  • Ability to multitask, effectively deal with conflicting priorities, work on strict deadlines, and function effectively in a team environment 

Salary: $ 49,852 per annum

The salary represents the job rate determined for the successful candidate who is fully competent in the role. The actual salary will vary depending on market conditions and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
