BAE Systems is currently looking for a talented Optical Section Lead to join our EO/IR Capability Group in our Merrimack, NH Location.
This Optical Engineering Manager will oversee, manage, and serve as a hands-on technical lead of a team of optical engineers, analysts, and technicians which provides the following functions company-wide for BAE Systems:
* Designs, models, analyzes, and tests optical and electro-optical systems and components.
* Conducts research and development into phases of physical optics and geometric optics, lasers, laser characteristics, laser maintenance, and broadband optical sources.
* Applies research of complex optical systems to achieve desired optical manipulations.
* Develops component specifications, tolerances, simulations and tests procedures for electro-optical systems and components.

Full-Time Salary Range: $146670 - $249330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

We are looking for a candidate who will:
- Oversee a team of optical engineers in the development of complex EO/IR products on IRADs, development and production programs within the ES Sector and associated Business Areas.
- Supervise and mentor both junior and experienced optical engineers, providing guidance on career growth, technical support, and expertise to enable the team to deliver exceptional engineering results and achieve program objectives.
- Act as an internal consultant and technical authority to his/her peers and subordinates.
- Provide major inputs to proposals involving EO/IR scope and new business development.
- Provide functional staffing.
- Occasionally travel to other BAE Systems and supplier locations.
- A familiarity with the comprehensive design process, including conceptual through final design, support to procurement.
- Hands-on work experience with program teams, engineering test, integration and support to product manufacture and qualification.
- Domain expertise in optical systems, optical materials, optical coatings, subcontract support, and procurement support.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in physics or optical engineering with 10+ years of applicable experience OR a master's degree and 8+ years of applicable experience
- Proven expertise in EO/IR systems development
- Ability to act as an internal consultant and technical authority to his/her peers and subordinates.
- Capable of providing major inputs to proposals involving EO/IR scope and new business development
- Ability to manage and mentor more junior personnel in their support of development programs and internal IRAD projects
- ACTIVE DOD Security Clearance
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Master's degree in engineering discipline
- Experience and leadership in EO/IR product development and sustainment support of DOD military electronics/equipment
- Certified Six-Sigma Black-Belt
