Job Summary:

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Operations Canada, the Operations Manager is responsible for leading a business unit team to efficiently and effectively exceed regional and global client requirements and expectations for Certification and Testing. Ensure delivery of these services is consistent, and in support of, corporate and divisional values, policies and objectives and enhances CSA’s image as a Global leader in Product Certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a business unit of 40+ managers, certifiers, lab technicians and admin staff

  • Responsible for >$10M in revenue generation

  • Ensures customer service and satisfaction by meeting customer expectations such as timing and communication requirements.

  • Facilitates continuous improvement of processes by sharing and implementing best practices, analyzing and acting upon data trends and utilization of other efficiency improvement tools.

  • Interacts and builds relationships with customers, Global Business Unit leaders, Operations leadership team and other members of the senior leadership team.

  • Ensures all decisions made are in the best interest of “one” CSA.

  • Efficiently plans and schedules customer orders and works with other CSA national and international offices to share and balance workload in a way that maximizes customer satisfaction.

  • Responsible for Profit & Loss, development of strategic business plans and operating budgets for business unit and regional organization. Understand and control costs. Ensures margins are in line with or better than other offices and competitors.

  • Involves Sales, Marketing, Business Development managers and other Corporate Resources to maximize revenues and margins.

  • Responsible for occupational safety and housekeeping. Ensures training of employees on safe work practices.

  • Assists in developing of departmental policies and procedures.

  • Trains and holds staff responsible for following corporate values, procedures and policies.

  • Monitors, acts on and reports on established Metrics including customer satisfaction, productivity and financial performance.

  • Develops a dynamic high performance organization.

  • Is a mentor to the employees and leads by example.

Education and Experience:

  • University degree in Business, Engineering, Science, or Marketing required.

  • Management experience including planning, staffing, project management and budget management.

  • Management experience in a union environment is a plus.

  • Strategic planning and forecasting experience along with business development and client relationship management.

  • Industry experience is preferred.

  • General knowledge of human resources processes and occupational health and safety.

Skills:

  • Independent worker, with leadership skills and ability to manage and inspire staff.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong presentation skills and confidence to deliver message to wide audience.

  • Ability to create, prepare and execute complex business strategies while organizing multiple projects and job responsibilities.

  • Creativity and project management skills to plan for projects, events and conferences.

  • High level of initiative and motivation to meet or exceed targeted goals with minimal supervision.

  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills.

  • Ability to make independent business decisions in a timely and responsible manner.

  • Strong facilitation and analytical skills.
