Operations Analyst, Systems & Automation
Orion is hiring a hands-on Operations Analyst, Systems & Automation to help complete critical migration work and build scalable automations across Managed and Self-Directed sides of the business.
This is a builder role for someone who understands operational workflows, is comfortable working across multiple systems and datasets, and can directly ship practical solutions using code, automation tools, and AI-assisted workflows.
We are looking for someone who thrives under pressure, commits to deadlines, takes ownership of outcomes, and operates with a strong bias toward automation over manual work.
This is not a role for someone who simply executes existing processes. We want someone who actively challenges manual work, improves systems, and builds better ways of operating.
Base Salary for this role: $70,000 - $85,000 CAD
What you will do
- Support migration-related work across operational systems, including data handling, transformation, validation, reconciliation, testing, and cutover support
- Own automation opportunities end to end—from identifying the manual workflow to designing, building, testing, documenting, and improving the solution
- Build automations that reduce manual work, improve speed and reliability, and strengthen operational control
- Work across spreadsheets, flat files, APIs, internal systems, and external vendor workflows to streamline execution
- Use Python, SQL, Excel / Power Query, and other practical tools to solve business problems directly
- Use AI tools, copilots, and agent-based workflows as a default part of research, coding, testing, documentation, and workflow redesign
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Product, Compliance, and external vendors to move priorities forward and unblock delivery
- Document workflows, logic, exceptions, and runbooks so processes become more repeatable and less dependent on tribal knowledge
- Support automation and systems-improvement initiatives across both core operations and the Self-Directed business
What we are looking for
- 2–5+ years of relevant experience in operations, business systems, automation, data workflows, or a related field
- Strong hands-on skills in Python and SQL
- Strong Excel skills; Power Query required and VBA considered an asset
- Experience working with APIs, CSV / flat files, data transformations, or multi-system workflows
- Practical experience using AI tools or AI agents to accelerate workflow automation, coding, analysis, testing, or documentation
- Examples of tools, scripts, automations, or AI-assisted workflows you have personally built or materially improved
- High ownership mindset with strong follow-through, sound judgment, and comfort operating in ambiguity
- Low tolerance for repetitive manual work and a habit of redesigning inefficient processes
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Curiosity, learning velocity, and a bias toward action
Helpful to have
- Experience in fintech, brokerage, investing operations, or financial systems
- Exposure to platform migrations, reconciliations, or operational controls
- Familiarity with IRESS, NDEX, or similar systems
- Experience building internal tools or automation solutions that were adopted by a business team
How success will be measured
- Meaningful reduction in manual work across key workflows
- Improved reliability, lower error rates, and less key-person dependency
- Migration work delivered accurately and on time
- Multiple meaningful workflows automated within the first 6 months
- A clear roadmap of future automation opportunities and scalable improvements
