The Technology department is a strategic partner with BCI’s business areas. It enables investment processes and business activities that contribute to the achievement of BCI’s mission and long-term goals. The department enables digital transformation and innovation and creates the digital capabilities that support and enable BCI to innovate, modernize service and product offerings guided by best practices, and drive a digitally empowered workplace through new collaboration and productivity ecosystems. The department is also responsible for providing the foundational infrastructure, systems, business applications, and advanced technologies for the front, middle, and back office.
As part of the Cyber Security team, the Network Engineer is responsible for architecting, deploying, managing and securing the network and infrastructure that supports services for our internal teams and external customers. The Network Engineer drives changes as necessary to support BCI business operations and will collaborate and communicate with members of cross-functional teams in an Agile hybrid environment.
The Network Engineer collaborates with business and technology teams to enable the effective and efficient delivery of secure and high-quality network products and services. They are responsible for architecting, deploying, managing, and securing the network and infrastructure. They will contribute various medium and high complexity projects, champion continuous network security improvements and contribute to project stakeholder engagement. The ability to both work independently and collaborate/solution with fellow engineers is crucial in applying an advanced level of competency; typically acquired through 5+ years of experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
A minimum of 5-7 years experience deploying, managing and maintaining multi-site enterprise networks
Must have excellent knowledge of network design and network system fundamentals as well as a passion to continuously improve in this area
Must have extensive hands-on experience managing and troubleshooting equipment from a variety of network infrastructure providers which could include Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, F5, Arista or Checkpoint
Experienced working in and supporting hybrid cloud environments (MS Azure)
Experience automating network administration using CI/CD pipelines, Ansible and/or Palo Alto Panorama is an asset
Exposure to, or experience with, cloud-based networking solutions such as SDWAN, CASB, Cloud VPN and Cloud Proxy is an asset
Must have excellent customer-service, listening, communication and problem-solving skills
Professional certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Aruba Networks certifications, Azure certifications, Palo Alto certifications or equivalent credentials are an asset
Experience deploying, managing and administering NAC solutions such as CPPM or ISE is an asset
Broad knowledge of IAM, Active Directory, PAM, least privilege, Linux, virtualization and scripting are assets
Collaborates with team members and other Technology teams on technical roadmap planning, development and implementation
Participates in projects related to secure network design, implementation and optimization
Conducts research on network products, services and standards in support of secure network design including task automation and NetSecOps platform best practices
Develops, implements and maintains policies and procedures for network operations
Oversees the installation, configuration, upgrades and maintenance of network components, and provides day-to-day operational support of network infrastructure
Manages network security solutions including firewalls, NAC, anti-malware, DNS, IPS, and IDS
Manages network-related hardware equipment including routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, ISP equipment and UPSs
Ensures optimal performance of network connectivity for all workstations, servers and services across multiple BCI office locations
Diagnoses and resolves both routine and complex network problems through effective root cause analysis
Recommends, develops and implements actions plans and solutions which either solve customer problems or result in continuous improvements to the BCI networking infrastructure
Practices network asset management including the maintenance of network inventory, technical specifications and related documentation
Monitors and tests network performance, and provides performance statistics and reports
Recommends, schedules and performs network improvements, upgrades and repairs
Interacts and coordinates with multiple vendors, suppliers and contractors for network products and services
Able to accurately assess vendor and supplier services and performance to ensure that BCI receives excellent value for money spent
Participates in the development of service level agreements with vendors and end users
Provides feedback to product teams to further enhance and develop network products
Ensures technical artifacts are accurate, accessible, maintained and communicated
Undertakes special projects or assignments as required
Performs other related duties as required
This position can be located in our Victoria or Vancouver offices. Staff based in our Vancouver office will be expected to periodically travel to Victoria office.
This position plays an important role in providing business critical support to BCI’s global offices during and after-hours and is eligible for an On-Call Premium. If you are shortlisted for an interview, we will discuss our On-Call program.
The annualized base salary range for this Victoria or Vancouver-based role is CAD $103,000 to $124,000.
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
