Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
As a Marketing Technology Solution Architect, you will be part of the Square Marketing Automation Platform team and a key cross-functional partner to the Square Banking product team. You will co-own Banking lifecycle marketing operations, including requirements gathering, solution design and execution, testing and QA, and post implementation support. You will collaborate with teams such as Lifecycle Campaign Management, Product Engineering, Product Marketing, Data Science, Design Technology, and more to develop effective, scalable solutions and oversee the successful implementation of these projects.
Through your work supporting the Square Banking team, you will also help establish best practices that inform overall Square Lifecycle programs. You will serve as a strategic partner to marketing technology platform teams such as CDP, Communications Infrastructure, and Growth Product and will help to define and prioritize their roadmaps as a key technical end user of their systems and platforms.
You Will

  • Translate business and product requirements into well-architected end-to-end marketing technology solutions that align with industry best practices and support business goals
  • Define the technical strategy and requirements to achieve business goals, including identifying the best platforms to enable business use cases, data strategy and infrastructure, personalization methodology, and workflow automation requirements
  • Review Engineering design documents, give feedback on compatibility with marketing technology, and define marketing technology requirements for Engineering
  • Coordinate with technical teams to ensure infrastructure and platforms are developed to keep pace with marketing needs, including defining the requirements for CDP, Data Science, Design Technology, and Product Engineering
  • Build new marketing automation workflows and make updates to existing workflows as identified in partnership with the Lifecycle Marketing and Banking product teams
  • Write and QA test Handlebars code for personalizing message templates with user profile, event, and API payload data
  • Provide ongoing marketing workflow maintenance through audits that inform optimization priorities, including automation, personalization, dynamic messaging, and other efficiencies
  • Provide in-depth QA testing support for Data Science and Design Technology for personalization data quality and Handlebars code in message templates
  • Document requirements and share best practices in infrastructure development, data strategy, and technical execution to enable scale across the Lifecycle team using Banking programs as case studies
  • Deliver measurable results through marketing channel performance improvements as a result of increased automation, personalization, and segmentation

You Have

  • 2-4+ years of experience managing and executing automated, data-driven, highly personalized marketing programs
  • Proficiency with code syntaxes and markup languages including Handlebars, JSON, HTML, CSS, and Liquid
  • Experience identifying and leveraging APIs, CDP events, and webhooks to facilitate best-in-class customer experiences in lifecycle marketing channels
  • Experience working with enterprise-level marketing technology such as Iterable, Amplitude, and Optimizely (or similar) and demonstrated deep understanding of system architecture and integrations
  • Ability to understand business and product requirements and translate them into technical solutions - comfort with ambiguity and willingness to help define solutions
  • Experience working and influencing cross-functionally to execute technical projects
  • A strong sense of ownership and ability to chase down details that lead to successful outcomes
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Genuine interest in and curiosity about payments, lending, fintech, and small business
