As an Engineering Manager on the Accounts team, you will lead a group of talented engineers focused on enabling the lifecycle management of accounts, businesses, and users within our complex ecosystem. This team owns critical front-line APIs that empower our customers to shape precise lifecycle experiences for their end users and cardholders. You will coach and support your team, drive technical direction and execution, and partner cross-functionally to ensure our systems are robust, scalable, and flexible for future growth. The work is foundational to Marqeta's architectural shift from a card-centric to an account-centric model, unlocking future innovation across our money movement platform.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere within the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia, Canada preferably you residing in either Greater Toronto Area or Metro Vancouver. We’d love for you to join us!

What you will do?

  • Develop a vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Accounts team in partnership with Product and other Engineering teams.
  • Drive technical design, implementation, and operational excellence for the lifecycle management services and APIs owned by the team.
  • Build and grow a high-performing, inclusive team. Coach engineers in their careers and foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Collaborate across the organization to support key business initiatives and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Advocate and uphold engineering best practices, with a focus on performance, reliability, maintainability, and security.
  • Define and track success metrics and SLAs, ensuring the team's systems meet internal and external expectations.
  • Participate in and guide production support, incident response, and continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of software engineers, including day-to-day execution, career development, performance management, and hiring.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and architecture stakeholders to define and execute on roadmap priorities.
  • Implement and refine team processes that promote high-quality, scalable software delivery.
  • Lead and support technical planning and system design reviews.
  • Drive accountability and excellence in system operations and service availability.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing technical teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.
  • Strong grasp of software design principles, system architecture, and operational excellence.

Nice to haves

  • Domain experience in payments or fintech.
  • Understanding of multi-tenant architecture and platform thinking.
  • Experience with our tech stack, including Java, AWS, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. 

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD, is $148,900 to $186,100
