🚀 About the Role: Manager, Platform Engineering

We’re growing — and we’re hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our Platform Engineering team. This team is responsible for the availability, scalability, and efficiency of commonsku’s cloud infrastructure and data warehouse — the foundation that powers everything we build.

In this role, you’ll guide a talented team focused on infrastructure automation, modernization, operational excellence, and cloud cost efficiency, while partnering closely with product and engineering teams across the company. You’ll shape how we scale our systems and processes, ensuring that our platform continues to perform securely and reliably as our business grows.

You’ll also play a key role in building and nurturing a high-performing engineering team, developing people, improving processes, and fostering a culture of trust, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

💡 About You

You’re not just looking for a management role — you’re looking to lead with purpose.

You bring:

  • A community mindset — You see customers as partners and teammates as collaborators. You lift others up, follow through on commitments, and thrive in a team that does the same. (Community First)
  • Momentum and ownership — You move fast, act with optimism, and help your team turn ideas into results. (Fast Forward)
  • Vision and boldness — You think ahead, anticipate challenges, and shape technical direction for the future. (Ten Steps Ahead)
  • Joy in the craft — You care deeply about quality, performance, and helping engineers grow. You bring empathy, transparency, and a sense of humour to your work. (Delightful Work)

🛠️ What You’ll Do

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Partner with senior technical leaders to define the platform roadmap and drive strategic infrastructure initiatives.
  • Lead the delivery of complex, cross-functional engineering projects that strengthen our cloud systems.
  • Champion agile practices that foster predictable delivery, fast feedback loops, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a technical leader and mentor, helping engineers grow and ensuring strong technical decision-making.
  • Build and retain top engineering talent, creating an environment of trust, accountability, and excellence.
  • Drive improvements in cloud efficiency, reliability, and scalability, ensuring our systems evolve to meet future needs.
  • Communicate progress and outcomes clearly across teams and stakeholders, creating alignment and visibility.

🔍 What You Bring

Some of the qualities that help you thrive in this role:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of delivering scalable, high-quality systems.
  • 2+ years of experience managing engineers, including hiring, coaching, and career development.
  • Experience leading teams working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and data warehousing (e.g., Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure tooling (e.g., CircleCI, GitHub Actions, Terraform, DataDog, Docker, CloudFormation).
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and experience championing them across teams.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects from concept to delivery, balancing technical trade-offs and business goals.
  • Excellent communication skills — clear, empathetic, and tailored to different audiences.
  • A track record of mentoring engineers and fostering high-performing, feedback-driven teams. xf(]QS55
  • Nice to have: Experience with Generative AI and applying it to solve real-world infrastructure problems.

💰 Compensation & Perks

We believe in fair, transparent compensation.
Starting salary for this role is $150,000 – $170,000, depending on previous experience and skillset, plus a performance-based annual bonus.

New hires are expected to come in at the midpoint of this range. However, if this role sounds perfect for you and your expectations are outside of this range, we encourage you to apply and let us know — if it’s a great fit, we’ll have an open discussion around what’s possible.

Plus:

  • Remote-first culture (with plenty of in-person experiences sprinkled in)
  • Company-wide closure between December 25th and January 1st
  • Health and dental benefits, including a $1,000 healthcare spending account
  • RRSP/TFSA contributions up to $3,000 a year (no employee contribution required!)
  • Twice-yearly company-wide summits (we call it HQ — and you’ll love it)
  • A delightful team of smart people who are good at what they do

🌎 Location

This role is open to candidates eligible to work in Canada, with the exception of Quebec (we’re not set up to operate there yet — désolé!).
We’re remote-first, but if you’re based in Toronto, even better — that’s where we were founded and where we maintain our HQ today!
