Manager, Community Partnership & Business Development


The Customer Segments, Personal Banking team is responsible for defining, developing, and executing cross-functional, customer-centric strategies that drive Personal Banking customer acquisition, growth, and retention while supporting key business priorities.


As a key member of the New to Canada and Customer Growth team, the Manager, Community Partnerships & Business Development will be responsible for developing and executing community partnerships, sponsorships, events, and engagement strategies primarily focused on the South Asian market within the Greater Vancouver Area (GVA).


The Manager, Community Partnerships & Business Development will play a key role in growing BMO’s market share and strengthening its presence within the South Asian community. This will be accomplished by building meaningful relationships with community organizations, business associations, Centres of Influence, cultural networks, community leaders, and other strategic partners.


Working closely with Regional Banking leadership, branch teams, Business Banking, Wealth Management, and corporate partners, the Manager, Community Partnerships & Business Development will identify and deliver opportunities that generate leads, increase customer acquisition, deepen client relationships, and promote BMO’s broader value proposition.


The successful candidate will build specialized knowledge of the South Asian market and become a subject matter expert in community engagement, partnership development, lead generation, and customer acquisition. The ability to translate community relationships and market opportunities into measurable business results will be key to success in this role.


A typical workday may include:

  • Working closely with Personal and Business Banking Regional Leaders to develop and execute a community engagement, sponsorship, and partnership plan aligned with regional customer growth priorities.
  • Developing and executing strategies to grow BMO’s market share and strengthen its presence within the South Asian community, with a particular focus on the Greater Vancouver Area.
  • Identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships with community leaders, business associations, cultural organizations, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, referral partners, and Centres of Influence.
  • Leading BMO’s involvement in large-scale South Asian community events and sponsorships, as well as select additional events and partnership opportunities where appropriate.
  • Identifying sponsorships, partnerships, and community initiatives that enhance BMO’s visibility, reputation, and relevance within the South Asian market.
  • Establishing proactive community outreach to increase awareness of BMO’s products, services, customer offers, and New to Canada solutions.
  • Representing BMO at key community, cultural, business, sponsorship, and networking events throughout the Greater Vancouver Area.
  • Creating speaking, networking, and relationship-building opportunities that promote BMO’s broader value proposition and deepen client and community relationships.
  • Developing and maintaining a strategic engagement plan for key community leaders, organizations, and referral partners.
  • Consulting with community partners, Centres of Influence, and Regional Personal and Business Banking Leaders to identify and execute market development opportunities.
  • Supporting branch teams in preparing for and participating in community events, partnership meetings, presentations, and business development opportunities.
  • Collaborating with branch leaders and frontline teams to generate leads, facilitate referrals, and convert opportunities into new customer relationships.
  • Partnering closely with Business Banking and Wealth Management teams to identify and facilitate referrals, bring partners into appropriate community events, and present BMO’s broader capabilities to prospective and existing clients.
  • Collaborating with New to Canada Market Ambassadors and branch teams to build community engagement and customer acquisition capabilities.
  • Supporting international student and campus partnership initiatives within British Columbia, with a focus on the Greater Vancouver Area, and communicating results to key stakeholders.
  • Providing coaching and guidance to branch teams on community engagement, customer acquisition, lead management, partnership development, and relationship-building best practices.
  • Monitoring and reporting on customer acquisition, lead generation, branch referrals, products per customer, balances, and other relevant business outcomes.
  • Tracking weekly, monthly, and quarterly activities and outcomes, including community engagements, partnership development, branch referrals, leads, new customer acquisitions, Personal and Premium Client opportunities, and cross-sell opportunities.
  • Gathering and sharing feedback from the field to enhance customer value propositions, community strategies, and customer acquisition approaches, with customer needs, competitive activity, market potential, and profitability in mind.
  • Sharing market intelligence regarding emerging South Asian community trends, customer needs, competitor activity, and potential business development opportunities.
  • Supporting the continued innovation and evolution of Personal Banking products, services, customer offers, and community engagement strategies.
  • Acting as a key liaison between regional stakeholders and corporate partners to ensure alignment with Customer Growth, New to Canada, and broader strategic priorities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant business experience.
  • At least seven years of relevant experience in business development, partnership management, community engagement, customer acquisition, sales leadership, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with South Asian communities, organizations, business associations, cultural networks, or community leaders within the Greater Vancouver Area is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the South Asian community and business landscape within the Greater Vancouver Area.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop trusted relationships within diverse communities and cultural networks.
  • Proven track record of developing, negotiating, and managing partnerships that deliver measurable customer and business outcomes.
  • Experience planning and executing community events, sponsorship activations, outreach programs, or market development initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of customer acquisition, lead generation, referral management, and relationship-deepening strategies.
  • Ability to influence, collaborate with, and lead diverse and cross-functional stakeholder groups.
  • Strong relationship-building, networking, consulting, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • Solid leadership skills and the ability to provide coaching and guidance to branch teams and business partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong active listening and coaching skills.
  • Comfort interpreting customer, segment, and market data to identify trends, opportunities, and business insights.
  • Experience tracking activities, measuring outcomes, and communicating results to senior stakeholders.
  • Resilience and adaptability in the face of ambiguity, evolving priorities, or setbacks.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and remain organized in a dynamic environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong social selling and professional networking capabilities.
  • The role is based in the Greater Vancouver Area, with regular in-person engagement across the market.
  • Five days per week in the office or market and approximately 40% local travel required. Mileage is compensated in accordance with applicable policies.

This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence BMO’s growth within the South Asian market by building meaningful community relationships, executing high-impact partnerships and events, generating new business opportunities, and strengthening BMO’s presence throughout the Greater Vancouver Area.

Salary:

$70,000.00 - $150,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
