Position: Look Development Artist - Junior

Hiring Range: $65,000 to $70,000/year for a 40 hour work week

Project Contract: TBC

POSITION PURPOSE

The primary focus of the Junior Look Development Artist is to complete model preparation for downstream departments. Artists will be required to complete Look Development tasks based on Image Engine’s production needs. They will work with the Look Development Lead to identify key strengths and areas of development to maximize their time and to assist in task distribution. Junior artists will complete tasks within the assigned time frame. They will use their listening skills to take on feedback for improvement and professional development. They will begin to quality check their work to improve standards and develop as an artist. They will troubleshoot problems as necessary; however, will bring questions forward to Leads and Supervisors as soon as possible to ensure effective use of time and resources.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Address your Lead's critiques and comments while providing solutions to aesthetic issues to improve the assets; and maintain a quality level as described by your Supervisor/ Lead
    • Process requests from pipeline departments
    • Manage time and resources to meet weekly targets
    • Assist in developing standard lighting rigs & setups for verifying aspects of look development
    • Provide dailied versions for assigned tasks in an agreed-upon time by your Supervisor/ Lead
    • Attend dailies, reviews & team meetings and participate as required
    • Work with a team of artists in a hands-on capacity to ensure technically and artistically proper implementation of look developed assets
    • Work closely with texture artists to create necessary texture maps for application to creatures, props and environments
    • Promote interdepartmental collaboration
    • Ensure all email correspondence and scheduling is up to date, responding to emails in a timely manner
    • Utilize multitasking ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      • 1+ years’ of Look Development experience with high end film
      • Experience in defining and creating photo-realistic assets
      • Understanding of rendering large datasets
      • Understanding of traditional art skills (Form, architecture, anatomy, topology, colour theory) and how to apply those skills in a digital medium
      • Excellent attention to detail when finalizing assets
      • Ability to balance quick turnaround while achieving a high degree of aesthetic quality

      SKILLS AND ABILITIES

       

      Technical skills

      • Junior level experience in MEL / Python / C++
      • Knowledge of Maya 
      • Knowledge of LINUX/UNIX

      Core skills

      • Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities and projects
      • Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and applications
      • Ability to push assets to the next level
      • Excellent time management and communication skills
