Position Overview
The Legal Counsel is a key member of the legal team, reporting to the General Counsel. This role provides legal advice to internal clients, works on strategic projects, and coordinates with external counsel as needed. The position will support legal functions across North America.
Primary Accountabilities:
- Provide legal services to the internal business team.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various types of contracts, including commercial leases, customer contracts, vendor contracts, technology agreements, and other commercial arrangements.
- Advise on routine employment matters and coordinate with external employment counsel when necessary.
- Assist with corporate law matters and transactions.
- Provide guidance on existing contractual arrangements and contract interpretation.
- Manage external legal counsel.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of UniUni’s business.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 4–6+ years of corporate and commercial experience, preferably at a major national or regional law firm, or a combination of major firm and in-house experience.
- Experience in employment law, commercial leasing, and/or transportation regulatory matters is a plus but not required.
- Qualified to practice law in one or more U.S. states and/or Canadian provinces.
- Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills.
- Practical, results-oriented approach combined with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively and communicate with team members from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Capable of working independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a dynamic and varied environment.
- Fluency in multiple languages, particularly Mandarin or French, is an asset but not required.
- Fully remote option available (applicant may be located anywhere in Canada or the United States). Hybrid work option available for applicants located in Southern California, USA, or Vancouver, Canada.
