GeoComply seeks a Legal Counsel to join our dynamic and growing Legal team, supporting strategic initiatives and ensuring legal compliance within our fast-paced, tech-driven environment. This role focuses on a diverse mix of commercial contracting, product counseling, privacy, and intellectual property (IP) matters. Reporting to the Director of Commercial & Product Legal, the successful candidate will provide day-to-day legal guidance, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive business objectives while mitigating legal risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Contracting: Support commercial contracting processes by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of agreements, including SaaS and licensing contracts, ensuring alignment with business and legal requirements.
  • Product Counseling: Provide legal guidance on product development, from ideation through launch, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including privacy and data protection standards.
  • IP and Licensing: Assist in managing IP assets, including drafting and reviewing licensing agreements, supporting patent initiatives, and protecting GeoComply’s intellectual property.
  • Privacy & Data Governance: Ensure products and services comply with global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant standards, working closely with our privacy and compliance teams.
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Identify and address potential legal risks in commercial transactions and product development, proposing practical solutions to mitigate exposure.
  • Legal Process Optimization: Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes by implementing best practices and exploring innovative legal technologies.

Qualifications

  • Law degree (LLB, LLM, JD) and Bar membership in a relevant US state and/or Canadian province
  • A proven track record of legal experience in commercial contracting, technology transactions, privacy, and IP matters within a law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably in the tech industry.
  • Ability to draft, review, and negotiate a diverse range of complex commercial and technology licensing contracts, and support the development of contract templates.
  • Solid understanding of existing and emerging privacy, data protection and intellectual property laws.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal issues into actionable advice for business stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, responsive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in-house in a high-growth technology environment.
  • Experience in regulated industries, especially gaming or financial services
  • Familiarity with legal operations management and technology adoption.
