About the Position:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Laboratory Assistant to support laboratory operations by performing routine tasks, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
Specific Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process samples according to established procedures and protocols.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration and basic troubleshooting.

  • Assist in the preparation of reagents, solutions, and media.

  • Perform routine laboratory tests and analyses under supervision.

  • Accurately record and document all experimental data and observations.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of waste.

  • Monitor inventory of supplies and reagents, and assist with ordering when necessary.

  • Adhere to all safety regulations, quality control standards, and company policies.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding work progress and any issues.

  • Participate in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety procedures and practices.

  • Proficiency in using standard laboratory equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in a science-related field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science) is an asset.

  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs./9 kg. on a regular basis and carry for short distances;

  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;

  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;

  • Ability to stand for a full shift;

  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;

  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.

  • An estimated hourly pay of $22.77 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
