Location: ALS Metallurgy, Kamloops

Reports to: Manager, Metallurgical Lab

About the Position:

Using standard procedures, the laboratory analyst performs a variety of mineral separation tests as required for each test program.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Grind samples in laboratory rod mill

  • Conduct testing using rougher flotation, gravity separation, or cyanide leaching techniques;

  • Operate and perform maintenance on grinding rolls, stirred mills, Malvern laser sizer, scales, compressors, filtration system, pH meters;

  • Prepare test work reagents;

  • Ensure all prepared and available samples are accounted for in the lab;

  • Maintain calibration & production logs and equipment records;

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns to the Supervisor or Manager;

  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Analytical and mechanical skills;

  • Detail oriented individual with a strong commitment to quality;

  • Organized, highly motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team;

  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;

  • English communication skills (written and verbal);

  • Basic MS Office skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Required Qualifications

  • Recognized degree or technical diploma in Chemistry or Sciences required;

  • Laboratory experience in a metallurgical, analytical chemistry or related field is preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;

  • Able to lift filled 20 litre containers (25 kg);

  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;

  • Ability to stand for a full shift;

  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities

  • An estimated hourly pay of $24.82 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
