Role Overview
The Junior Accountant is responsible for timely and accurate financial reconciliation and reporting of assigned corporate tasks and properties as dictated by the annual accounting cycle.  Specific responsibilities include the preparation of monthly Bank Recs & GST, internal fees and chargebacks posting, mostly residential property reporting and Accounts Payable support.  This person is professional, organized, and detail oriented with a focus on efficiency and timeliness.  Must have the ability to problem solve, analyze data and provide clear communication to other departments.
The Junior Accountant reports directly to the Financial Services Controller for the Corporate / AP function and indirectly to the Operations Controller regarding Commercial Operations property portfolio accounting.
Specific Job Responsibilities
Corporate
  • Prepare wire transfers
  • Provide accounts payable coverage, as necessary
  • Release EFT utility payments generated by Accounts Payable
  • Prepare monthly bank recs
  • Reconcile & prepare GST returns
  • Coordinate timely payment and receipt of internal rents with accounting team members
  • Download credit card statements

Commercial Operations
  • Provide property & tenant related accounting support to Property Management team
  • Post tenant rent payments & check for NSFs in the bank
  • Assist with the review and release of tenant moveout refunds
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly NOI reports
  • Prepare, distribute and post monthly rent rolls and exceptions confirmations
  • Set up tenant EFT pulls for 1st of each month
  • Assist with annual preparation of property budgets and forecasting
  • Assist with annual preparation of commercial recoveries reconciliations & entries

Crossover Responsibilities
  • Work with accounting team members to manage completion of accounting cycle checklist and deadlines including posting monthly recurring journal entries
  • Provide vacation coverage to other team members
  • Prepare and post internal related party fees
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial, lease related and property portfolio reporting; including
    • Corporate and tenant chargebacks
    • Balance sheet reconciliations
    • Income statement variance analysis
    • GL analysis & reclassifying journal entries
    • Reconcile Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable ledgers to GL
  • Contribute to process improvements and implementation projects as required
  • Assist with various ad hoc accounting tasks as requested by Controller
  • Foster a strong working relationship with all team members and departments

Qualifications
  • Accounting diploma or degree is a requirement.
  • CPA designation or current enrollment in the CPA program is an asset.
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager is an asset.
  • Strong work ethic; able to work productively, with minimum supervision or collaboratively in a team.
This is a 14 month term for a Maternity Leave Replacement. 
Pay range: $60,000 to $68,000
