Career Opportunity
ISE is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join our team!
The Control Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing and integration of in-house and 3rd party control electronics, firmware, real time control algorithms and software packages into new and existing ISE vehicle automation and subsea robotics systems.
The Control Systems Engineer participates in requirements analysis, system architecture, electrical and software interface designs. This position works closely with Software, Electrical and Mechanical engineering team members to deliver innovative technology solutions that meet customer and business requirements.
Responsibilities
Control System Design & Integration
- Design and develop control architectures for AUVs, ROVs, and subsea payload systems.
- Define control interfaces for motors, thrusters, hydraulic systems, sensors, navigation systems, and payload equipment.
- Develop and maintain control system documentation, interface control documents, and functional specifications.
- Support electrical architecture development including power distribution and control networks.
Automation & Software Configuration
- Configure and troubleshoot real-time control systems.
- Develop control logic for vehicle functions, mission systems, and support equipment.
- Integrate CAN-bus, Ethernet, serial communications, Modbus, and other industrial communication protocols.
- Support HMI and operator interface development.
System Integration & Testing
- Participate in vehicle integration activities.
- Develop test procedures and verification plans.
- Conduct laboratory, dockside, and sea-trial testing.
- Analyze system performance and troubleshoot complex control issues.
- Support acceptance testing and customer demonstrations.
Engineering Documentation
- Generate:
- Control system schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Interface specifications
- Test reports
- Verification records
- Design review packages
- Maintain configuration control of control system hardware and software.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Support development of next-generation autonomous vehicle technologies.
- Evaluate emerging technologies in:
- Autonomous control
- Navigation systems
- Marine robotics
- Power management
- Vehicle automation
- Contribute to research and development initiatives.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- P.Eng. designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is preferred.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience developing industrial, robotic, marine, aerospace, or autonomous vehicle control systems.
- Experience with real-time control systems and distributed architectures.
- Experience integrating electrical, software, and mechanical systems.
- Experience supporting system commissioning and field testing.
Preferred Experience
- AUV, ROV, or marine robotics experience.
- Autonomous navigation systems.
- Underwater vehicle control algorithms.
- Sonar or acoustic systems integration.
- Defence or controlled-goods environments.
- Sea-trial support and offshore operations.

Security Requirements
All candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain Canadian Controlled Goods and Canadian Government Security clearances.
