About the Role

Are you interested in applying your people leadership and strategic organizational skills for the public good? We are looking for a smart, passionate, and purpose-driven individual to join our team. Cybera is a not-for-profit agency whose mission is to improve the lives of Albertans through the use and advancement of technology, digital literacy, and digital best practices. We are a company of 40+ people (and growing!) that serves the province’s education, research, and government sectors.

As our Human Resources Manager, you will play a dual role — acting as a hands-on operational collaborator and a strategic organizational leader. Reporting to the VP, Strategic Communications, you will manage Cybera's human resources function across the entire employee lifecycle. You will lead and mentor our HR Generalist, support our management team with their people-related needs, and serve as a trusted partner to all Cybera staff. From championing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), to driving professional development strategies, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting the integration of new HR tools (including AI solutions), you will foster a supportive, high-performance hybrid culture.

We are looking for a self-directed professional with a unique blend of strategic thinking and hands-on operational execution, who is adept at navigating change in a dynamic tech environment!

What You’ll Do

Strategic HR Leadership & Culture

  • Translate Cybera's multi-year strategic plan into actionable plans to foster an inclusive, adaptable organizational culture, balancing high-level strategy with hands-on support for hybrid teams.
  • Work closely with the executive team to drive a strong people-first vision across the organization.
  • Support the building of a strong succession plan for key roles across the organization.
  • Coach and mentor department managers to build strong relationships with their teams.
  • Leverage modern HR tech systems (specifically BambooHR) and emerging AI solutions to optimize workflow efficiency, automate operations, draft policies, and build templates.

Employee Lifecycle & Operations

  • Act as team lead and mentor for the HR Generalist, ensuring operational HR goals are met, tasks are completed, and supporting their professional growth and leadership development.
  • Assist and guide department managers with candidate sourcing, selection, contract creation, employee setup, and a comprehensive HR onboarding process.
  • Support managers through sensitive termination and exit processes, ensuring all administrative, contractual, and legal protocols are handled with discretion and confidence.
  • Investigate, implement, and administer Cybera’s group benefits program (including long- and short-term disability plans, Health & Lifestyle spending accounts, and Group RRSP plans), conducting periodic reviews for market competitiveness.
  • Maintain a highly organized, secure, and comprehensive staff record-keeping system, ensuring all documents are continually ready for audits.

Compensation & Performance Strategy

  • Develop, drive, and execute a strategic, multi-year attraction and retention strategy aligned with Cybera's long-term vision.
    • Includes overseeing and evolving the annual performance management and review process
    • Includes developing and implementing a compensation plan.
  • Facilitate manager and employee feedback loops, lead performance ranking meetings, and partner with external HR consultants to conduct bi-annual salary benchmarking.

Learning, Development & Committee Leadership

  • Design and execute an organization-wide professional development (PD) strategy to foster continuous learning and cultivate future internal leaders.
  • Identify, source, and recommend targeted training for staff (e.g. manager training, emerging leaders programs).
  • Opportunity to co-chair staff cultural, health, and well-being committees.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a bachelor's or undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university, OR a Human Resources Management Certificate, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Having a Chartered Professionals in Human Resources designation is a plus.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally managing the day-to-day HR operations of an organization of at least 30 staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in people management, coaching, and developing future organizational leaders.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and Alberta employment standards, labor codes, and HR compliance requirements.

Skills & Core Competencies

  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar), a Mac computer environment, and experience with HR information systems (experience with BambooHR is considered an asset).
  • Outstanding organizational, multitasking, and priority-management skills, with a high level of attention to detail and ability to handle conflicting priorities.
  • High degree of maturity, emotional intelligence, and listening skills, with a proven ability to maintain complete privacy and confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to groups of various sizes and collaborating across all levels of the organization.

Assets / Pluses

  • Prior experience working within the non-profit, technology, or start-up sectors.
  • Experience using AI tools, emerging technologies, or automation workflows to optimize HR processes, draft policies, and streamline templates.

These requirements represent an ideal candidate, however, we don't expect you to have them all! We thoroughly evaluate each candidate's overall potential and experience relative to the expectations and responsibilities of the role.
