About Grayling UK

Our people are in equal parts exceptional professionals and wonderful human beings.

We’ve created a culture that champions personal growth and development, empowering everyone to be creative, innovative and enjoy their work. Your growth is our priority because when you thrive, so do we.

We’re serious about our work but never about ourselves, so if you’re looking for your next move, and are passionate about Public Affairs, you’ve come to the right place!

We’re very proud of our track record in Wales; we’ve been operating here for over twenty-five years.  Our public affairs team won the PRCA Polimonitor “Consultancy Campaign of the Year” award for our work with Stena Line on the Anglesey Freeport and we have an excellent track record of delivering positive change for our clients.

Across the wider UK, we’ve won PR Week's Award for the Best Proactive Lobbying Campaign on an Issue or Cause for our work with Bumble to criminalise cyber-flashing. This year, we were also excited to be shortlisted for the PR Week Corporate Affairs Awards in the “Best Agency – Public Affairs” category and for “Large Agency of the Year” at the PR Week People and Places Awards!

The day to day

We’re looking for an Account Executive to join our award-winning public affairs practice, where you’ll have the opportunity to work on flagship client accounts both in Wales and across the wider UK. You'll be working for some of the country’s most recognisable organisations (a full list of our clients can be found on the Public Affairs Board Register).

Our client base covers a broad range of sectors, including energy, transport, technology, food and drink, telecoms and housing.  As a core part of our wider UK public affairs team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on client accounts across our network and collaborate with our teams in London and elsewhere in the UK.

The role, based in our newly refurbished office in the heart of Cardiff, will require good political knowledge and understanding of parliamentary process and procedure. As an Account Executive, you will have already gained some experience in Welsh or UK politics and the core responsibilities will include client servicing, political monitoring, problem solving, researching and writing. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential.  Fluency in Welsh would be highly desirable.

The role of an Account Executive is varied, but daily tasks will involve:

  • Monitoring parliamentary and government departments
  • Providing daily and weekly intelligence reports for our clients
  • Drafting political briefing notes and parliamentary correspondence
  • Attending and contributing to client meetings
  • Organising client events and parliamentary receptions
  • Contributing to our departmental marketing strategy and set-piece Grayling events

What will give you the edge

  • A keen interest and understanding of Welsh and UK politics is essential
  • Some previous experience in Welsh and UK politics
  • Excellent research, written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident networker
  • Ability to juggle multiple and changing priorities
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and recommend a practical response
  • Strong written and oral Welsh language skills.

How to apply

Applications DO NOT require a covering letter or CV at this stage.

We like to do things a little differently and instead of sending your CV, please submit via our website (in place of where it asks for your resume) a 500 word (maximum) written submission, answering the following question:

  • What is your assessment of the challenges facing Eluned Morgan in the next twelve months?

If successful, you will be invited to attend a first stage virtual interview with two of our team members.

Please note, we will start shortlisting and interviewing as soon as we receive applications, so we would encourage you to apply sooner rather than later.

Our promises to you

  • Flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working & flexi time and 4pm Friday finishes
  • 25 days’ holiday, increasing by one day every year up to 30 days
  • Additional day of leave on your birthday and gifted time off over Christmas
  • A flexible benefits platform that puts you in control—choose from dental, gym, wellbeing initiatives, training, discounts, or even contributions to everyday bills like Netflix, Amazon, and Spotify!
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies
  • Free subscription to Calm app
  • Free breakfasts & fruit
  • An abundance of personal development opportunities, through our internal training programmes.
  • New business and employee referral bonuses
  • Railcard reimbursement
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme offering a 24/7 confidential advice line
  • Life assurance
