About Us

HONK is transforming the way parking operates across North America by enabling municipalities, universities, and private operators to eliminate physical payment infrastructure and transition to digital parking permits. Our innovative platform addresses the diverse challenges faced by parking operators, allowing them to focus on their core business. With hundreds of millions of payments processed per year, HONK is dedicated to product velocity and technological excellence.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Full Stack Rails Developer to join our established team of software engineers. In this role, you will design, architect, and build software solutions that will eventually handle hundreds of millions of dollars in parking transactions. Your contributions will span the full development lifecycle, from database migrations to front-end JavaScript/React implementations, ensuring our platform remains robust, scalable, and secure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development & Maintenance: Design, develop, and maintain high-quality web applications using Ruby on Rails.
  • Full-Stack Implementation: Deliver comprehensive solutions by working across the full technology stack, including both back-end (Rails APIs, database management) and front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) components.
  • System Architecture & Optimization: Collaborate in the design and architecture of new services and enhancements to our payment processing platform. Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges while optimizing system performance.
  • Collaborative Engineering: Work with product managers, UI/UX designers, and fellow engineers to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions. Participate in pair programming and collaborative code reviews to maintain high coding standards.
  • Documentation & Best Practices: Develop and maintain clear documentation to support system development and future enhancements, adhering to industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 4+ years of professional software development with a strong focus on Ruby on Rails. Technical Proficiency:
    • Demonstrated expertise in Ruby on Rails and full-stack development principles.
    • Proven experience in building APIs and scalable web applications.
    • Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and RESTful API design.
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional ability to diagnose complex issues and optimize software performance.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Professional Attributes: Self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of working independently. You take ownership of your work, continually seek improvement, and are comfortable traversing the entire technology stack.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with payment processing software.
  • Familiarity with building GraphQL APIs.

Join HONK to contribute to innovative solutions that redefine the parking industry. If you are a dedicated professional eager to drive technological progress and deliver impactful software, we invite you to apply and become part of our dynamic team.
