We’re always excited to meet great talent for this role. Even if there isn’t an immediate opening, we keep applications on file and connect with candidates when new opportunities arise.

About The Role

This role sits on one of Float’s product-focused engineering squads, responsible for building end-to-end experiences used daily by thousands of Canadian businesses. You’ll work across the stack to deliver intuitive, reliable, and scalable product features that directly impact customers’ financial workflows.

We are hiring across multiple levels for this role. Our interview process is designed to evaluate candidates objectively based on scope, judgment, and learning velocity, and we will level accordingly. As Float continues to grow, there are meaningful opportunities to expand ownership, deepen technical impact, and take on broader responsibility regardless of starting level.

This role is well-suited for developers who enjoy product thinking, end-to-end ownership, and balancing speed with quality in a high-autonomy environment.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Build and evolve end-to-end product features across backend, frontend, and APIs.

  • Partner closely with Product and Design to deliver simple, intuitive user experiences.

  • Translate customer needs into thoughtful technical solutions that scale.

  • Make principled trade-offs between speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.

  • Own features in production, including iteration, reliability, and improvement over time.

  • Contribute to shared standards, tooling, and practices that raise engineering quality.

  • Work within a small, empowered squad with clear ownership over a product vertical.

What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)
  • You ship meaningful product features that are used and valued by customers.

  • Your work improves the clarity, usability, or reliability of core product flows.

  • You take ownership of a meaningful slice of the product and execute with confidence.

  • You collaborate effectively across Product, Design, and Engineering.

  • Your judgment and execution raise the bar for your squad and peers.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience building full stack product features in a modern web environment.

  • Comfort working across backend, frontend, and APIs (depth may vary by individual).

  • Strong product and customer intuition — you care about what you’re building and why.

  • Ownership mindset for features in production.

  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a desire to keep improving your craft.

  • Bonus: experience with Python/Django, TypeScript/React, AWS, or fintech products.

Our Hiring Philosophy
  • Values > Aptitude > Skills

  • Slope > Intercept

  • Collective Bar Raising

We hire for character, curiosity, and learning velocity before credentials. Titles matter less than impact, and growth is expected as scope and ownership increase.

Flexible Work Model

We believe in flexible work supported by meaningful in-person collaboration. Team members within commuting distance of our Toronto office work in a hybrid model, while those based farther away primarily work remotely with occasional travel to Toronto for in-person time. Specific expectations can vary by role and will be discussed during the interview process.
