ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE

Reporting to our VP Finance, the Controller will lead our dynamic team of Finance professionals while partnering with senior leaders to grow the business. The Controller will develop and implement the Company’s financial strategy and report on the Company’s financial Objectives and Key Results.

As the leader of the accounting team, the Controller is responsible for closely monitoring Herschel’s financial health. The Controller is responsible for accounting operations, production of periodic financial reports, and maintenance of accounting records. maintains, manages, and analyzes financial statements, payroll, budgets, tax compliance issues, and more.

The Controller is responsible for direct supervision of all accounting and financial functions. Primary responsibilities include management of the general ledger, supervision of the monthly close process, accounting and reporting of inventory, and overseeing tax compliance. The Controller is also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.

The Controller will collaboratively build a team of highly engaged finance professionals and be a strategic and financial advisor to the executive team and business owners across the company.

On a day-to-day basis, the Controller will:

Financial Accounting and Reporting

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions for all global entities
  • Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Coordinate and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Coordinate activities of external auditors
  • Provide management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Manage the accounting, reporting, and productivity of assets and liabilities including management of cash and lending transactions
  • Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
  • Evaluate accounting and internal control systems
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Develop and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Hire, train, and retain skilled accounting staff
  • Lead, develop, mentor, and train a team of values-engaged financial professionals ensuring they have the skills and resources to perform their roles and achieve their OKRs while encouraging them to advance their careers.
  • Ensure that members of the Accounting and Reporting team are strong and capable financial leaders, resources, colleagues, and mentors for others in the Company.

ABOUT YOU

  • 7+ plus years of financial accounting, reporting, and management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business. CPA, CA designation required
  • Public Practice experience from a Big 4 Firm at an assurance manager level 
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE)
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Extensive experience with financial / ERP software, productivity tools, and PC software
  • Experience building, managing, and developing diverse teams
  • Project and process management expertise.
