We are looking for a Full-Stack Engineer to focus on our Joist Payments product. Joist, an EverCommerce solution group and member of the EverPro suite of products, is an end-to-end vertical software platform for small & medium-sized trades contractors. We have a simple mission: Make Contractors Heroes. Joist provides web and mobile applications for small business contractors to estimate, invoice, record, and process payments, and manage projects from anywhere. From humble beginnings, we're now helping over 1 million contractors across North America, the UK, and Australia, making us one of the largest trades platforms in the world, and we have major growth planned! 

Responsibilities:  

You will contribute to solutions from inception to deployment, and everything in between. The solutions you and your team build must not only work for Joist today but also support rapid iteration and innovation as we grow. Your work will be nothing less than redefining the home renovation industry. The key aspects of this role include: 

Innovate and Develop: Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Ruby on Rails code for our BE payments services. 

Collaborate: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to define, design, and ship new features. 

Enhance User Experience: Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications to provide an exceptional user experience. 

Mentor and Lead: Regularly review code, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior team members to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement. 

Drive Technical Excellence: Identify bottlenecks and bugs, devise solutions to address and mitigate these issues, and help maintain code quality and organization. 

 

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • 3-5 years of professional industry experience writing software in the Ruby-on-Rails framework as a member of agile development teams 

  • 1-2 years of professional industry experience implementing FE solutions with ReactJS or a similar single page application framework

  • A strong understanding of RESTful API design

  • Expertise in database design and caching technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, etc.) 

  • Understanding of Domain Driven Design 

  • Experience building server-side systems using micro services (or similar) architectures

  • Experience in working with Docker for local development and deployment 

  • Experience in deploying applications using Jenkins (or equivalent tools for CI/CD) into cloud providers (AWS, GCP, etc.) 

  • Proficiency in JavaScript fundamentals including common data structures  

  • Proficiency in semantic HTML and CSS preprocessors such as SASS  

  • Have worked with at least 1 CSS framework (ex. Material UI)

  • Experience with a unit testing library such as Jest/Enzyme or React Testing Library 

  • Experience in performing detailed root cause analysis up and down the software stack using a variety of debugging tools. 

  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely about deeply technical topics in an easy-to-understand way. 

  • Ability to unblock themselves and others by asking the right questions and effectively collaborating with all stakeholders (Product, Design)  

  • A lifelong learner 

 

Bonus Skills and Experience: 

  • Experience using message bus architecture to communicate between services 

  • Experience running applications in managed containerized platforms such as Kubernetes or ECS 

  • Experience with payment processing using 3rd party providers such as Stripe, Apple, PayPal, etc. 

  • Experience interfacing with email service providers such as MailChimp or Salesforce 

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code for use in cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Heroku or GCP 

  • Knowledge of working with a forms library such as Formik

  • Experience with state management library such as Redux

  • Familiarity with design systems such as Storybook  

  • Familiarity with Figma 

  • You hold a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or in a similar field. While not a requirement, it helps to have a common baseline of understanding of CS principles when working with other technical people. 

  

Where: Remote (Joist head office located in Toronto, Canada).  

The EverCommerce team is distributed globally, with teams in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Jordan, New Zealand, and Australia. With a widely distributed team, we are used to working remotely across different time zones. This role can be based anywhere in Canada – if you’re close to one of our offices, we can set you up in-office or you can work 100% remotely. Please note that you must be eligible to work without sponsorship to qualify for this position, and this role may require travel to our Corporate Headquarters in Denver, Colorado, or to other office locations around North America.

Compensation: EverCommerce is committed to equal pay and transparency. The annual base salary range for this position is $100k – $126k CAD Per Year, with a 10% annual bonus, awarded depending on personal and group performance. Please note that the salary range information provided is a general guideline and combines all the distinct labor markets within Canada. EverCommerce considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, candidate’s work location, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.
