We have an immediate opening for an Environmental Specialist in our Carberry, Manitoba, facility. The successful candidate will ensure that McCain continues to meet environmental compliance with all applicable environmental permits and regulations. In addition, the role will be responsible for driving environmental sustainability in the factory by meeting McCain corporate environmental initiatives in order to reduce our environmental footprint. This job is considered a developmental role with advancing opportunities.
Accountabilities:
- Active participation in health & safety initiatives, taking a lead role in promoting and adherence to company safety work rules and drive towards zero incidents.
- Prepares and maintains monthly reports in compliance of provincial and federal regulatory agencies.
- Ensure factory is in compliance with our environmental license and maintains permit compliance
- Active participant in the efforts conforming to ISO 14001:2015 EMS- Environmental Management System.
- Leads the initiative of waste to landfill reduction. (i.e. recycling, reuse, etc.)
- Manage, track and deliver on McCain Carberry's Resource Efficient Operations action plan.
- Key owner and point person for ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
- Key owner and point person for sustainability programs and projects for the plant.
- Ensure that McCain Foods Environmental Policy is communicated and followed.
- Ensure that all regulatory requirements are met.
- Maintain environmental communications to the plant, corporate engineering team and to regulatory bodies.
- Develop, implement, and report on the environmental objectives for the site.
- Develop and oversee environmental program continual improvement measures.
- Lead internal and external auditing activities.
- Environmental permit establishment and implementation.
- Develop environmental permit applications.
- Prepare and submit government and internal reports as required by provincial and federal regulations.
- Negotiate with regulatory agencies to derive permit conditions.
- Solicit consultant assistance and perform engineering studies as required.

Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of education, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- An undergraduate degree in Engineering or equivalent education. Relevant experience may also be considered.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively and persuasively articulate positions (electronically and verbally) to various audiences of the business.
- Must be able to demonstrate a sustained passion and interest in Environmental Sustainability and Provincial regulations.
- Adaptable and flexible team player who is a champion of change.
- Preference for experience in ISO certification standard.
- Knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations.
- Continuous Improvement mindset
- Prior manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
