We are seeking a Senior Environmental Geochemist to join our Tailings, Water, and Environment Team to work and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on projects related to the environmental management of mining operations and mine site closures. The successful candidate will report to the Sr. Director Tailings, Water, and Geotechnical Engineering. Our group carries out a multitude of varied mandates related to the fields of the mining environment and sustainable mining development. We regularly take up the challenge of designing innovative solutions adapted to each client and assisting them at all stages of the life of their mining operation, from exploration to closure.

The selected candidate will primarily be involved in projects concerning the management of mine tailings (mainly concentrator tailings and waste rock piles), effluent management (transport, collection, and treatment), as well as the planning and execution of mine site closures and post-closure monitoring. In carrying out these duties, the individual will be supported by multidisciplinary teams composed mainly of experts in geotechnics, geology, rock mechanics, hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, water treatment, environment, construction, and demolition.

The Geochemist will report to the Water Resources Team Manager within the Tailings, Water and Environment Management division of M&M.

This opportunity will be to support the M&M business located in Cranbrook, Nelson, Trail (BC), and Calgary (AB).

Your role within the team:

  • Support and take charge of conducting studies on the characterization of mine tailings and mine drainage and assessing their impact on the quality of contact water to be managed at a mine site;
  • Develop field campaigns to gather data supporting mine tailings characterization studies;
  • Participate in the preparation of service proposals;
  • Collaborate with other disciplines involved in the project;
  • Participate in project meetings;
  • Manage the execution of studies, including client communications, budget management and control, and other administrative aspects of the project;
  • Contribute to the training and development of junior engineers and professionals;

The ideal candidate:
 

  • Bachelor's or post-graduate degree in engineering, science, or related field
  • Eligible for registration with Engineers Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or equivalent professional association in another Canadian jurisdiction.
  • 10+ years of experience in mining environment, mine reclamation, or mining projects, with expertise in mine tailings characterization and mine drainage assessment.
  • Experience leading and collaborating within project teams and overseeing technical work by junior personnel is considered an asset.
  • Solid understanding of the environmental regulatory framework governing mining and metallurgical activities at both federal and provincial levels (e.g., Quebec Directive 019, BC Mines Health, Safety and Reclamation Code, Guide for Preparing Mine Site Reclamation Plans in Ontario, EIA processes, certificates of authorization)

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $122,500 - $168,400 annually) (Only Applicable to British Columbia). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
