About the Role:

Remitly is on a mission to transform the way immigrants send money globally, making financial services more accessible, secure, and efficient. We leverage cutting-edge data infrastructure, AI/ML, and analytics to optimize transactions, detect fraud, and personalize customer experiences.

We're hiring an Engineering Director to serve as the leader of our Canada site as well as hiring and developing additional engineering teams. Site lead responsibilities will include further development of the site strategy and goals, representing Remitly at local events to build employer reputation, fostering team culture and partnering with our local facilities and recruiting teams to provide a great employee experience. Engineering leadership responsibilities will include the hiring and management of engineering squads including hiring managers, refining team charters and driving execution towards team goals. This role will report to our Director of Engineering for Identity and Trust.

You Will:

  • Work with our local facilities, HR and recruiting teams to provide an excellent employee experience
  • Establish Remitly's employer brand by engaging in local tech events and representing Remitly externally
  • Own our Canada site strategy; communicate with leaders across the company regarding site goals, progress and expansion opportunities
  • Lead engineering teams building platform capabilities to support Remitly's product teams
  • Hire and develop managers and technical leaders within your team
  • Establish a culture of technical excellence and consistent delivery towards goals
  • Create and share clear charters for your teams to keep them connected to company goals and the needs of our customers

You Have:

  • 8+ years managing engineering teams
  • 4+ years managing other managers
  • Experience building teams from the ground up with a strong focus on recruiting and culture
  • An up-to-date understanding of software application development practices including system design, distributed systems, persistence / databases and API design and best practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the capability to represent the company externally
  • Experience hiring and developing senior talent up to the Principal Engineer and Senior Manager level

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is $220,000-$275,000. In Canada, Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
