3D MODELING SPECIALIST

Turn 3D Point Clouds into Engineering-Ready Pole Models

Why this Role

Encepta is growing! We’re building a new, cutting-edge capability to transform 3D point cloud data into high-quality pole models that power telecom infrastructure projects across Canada. This role is ideal for someone who loves quiet, focused work where accuracy matters, and gets real satisfaction from turning messy real-world data into clean, consistent models.

We’re intentionally making this role student / new-grad friendly. If you’re smart, coachable, and detail-oriented, we’ll provide the training, tools, and support to help you succeed—no prior telecom experience required.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Reporting to our Manager, Operations, you’ll work closely with fielding teams, GIS specialists, and engineering partners to convert point cloud outputs into reliable, analysis-ready models. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Process, validate, and clean 3D point cloud feature extraction outputs using point cloud / mapping tools (including ArcGIS)
  • Normalize attributes, resolve geometry issues, and follow standard workflows and checklists
  • Build base pole models in SpidaCalc (and supporting tools), applying standard client settings and initial sanity checks
  • Flag missing or inconsistent data and coordinate with fielding/design teammates to correct issues upstream
  • Document anomalies and contribute ideas to improve our workflows as this capability scales
  • Participate in regular team reviews focused on quality, consistency, and continuous improvement

Reality check (so you can self-select): This role is high screen-time and high repetition by design—often 80–90% of your day is focused modelling work (clicking/validating point-by-point, pole-by-pole). If that sounds satisfying, you’ll thrive here.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12–18 months, you'll be:

  • Producing consistent, accurate models that downstream pole loading analysis and design teams can trust
  • Hitting clear quality standards (low rework, strong validation habits, clean documentation)
  • Improving your speed and consistency over time—supported by coaching, reviews, and structured training
  • Contributing practical feedback that makes the process faster, clearer, and more scalable

What We're Looking For

  • New grads and co-op students (4+ months) are welcome. This can be a first job.
  • Located in the Greater Vancouver area (required)
  • Comfortable with long stretches of focused computer work and detailed, repeatable tasks
  • Clear communicator who flags issues early and asks good questions
  • Background (or current studies) in a technical discipline such as engineering technology, CAD/drafting, civil/mechanical, geomatics, computer science, or similar
  • Curiosity and the ability to learn new software tools quickly

Nice to have (not required): ArcGIS exposure, point clouds / 3D data, SpidaCalc (or similar), basic scripting/automation mindset.

What's In It for YOU?

We know that when you grow, we grow. That’s why we offer more than just a job, we offer a launchpad for your career:

  • Structured onboarding + training: videos, guided examples, practice datasets, and checklists
  • Hands-on support: buddy/mentor, daily check-ins early on, and weekly quality reviews
  • Tools provided: laptop, software access, and training materials
  • Clear path to hybrid/remote: start in-office for ~4 weeks at our Burnaby HQ to ramp up, then hybrid/remote options based on readiness
  • Growth paths (based on your interests):
    • Senior Modeling Specialist
    • Pole Loading Analysis / Structural Modeling pathway
    • Telecom Design role
    • Telecom Drafting role
    • Project Coordinator → Project Lead
