Purpose of Job:

The Dispatcher will answer incoming phone calls and dispatch hot-shot requests in a timely, orderly fashion. This role will actively engage with customers to efficiently assess and fulfill their needs. They will also prepare invoices and accept payments using a computer.

Job Components:

  • Promptly answer all incoming phone calls in a professional and friendly manner. 

  • Use professional telephone etiquette when assisting customers.

  • Dispatch hot shot drivers in a manner that will deliver the best and most efficient service possible. 

  • Create and process invoices.

  • Contact priority customers on a weekly basis to identify potential concerns/issues and monitor supply.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate (or equivalent).

  • Able to read, write, and compute basic math.

  • Multi-line phone experience is required.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills are required.

  • Demonstrated use of professional phone etiquette required.

  • Previous local commercial dispatching experience is strongly preferred

  • Previous customer service experience is required.

  • Working knowledge of computers and applicable systems is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, quickly transitioning from one function/task to the next. 

  • Uses critical thinking skills when prioritizing tasks or performing dispatching duties.

  • Works with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Approaches tasks with a sense of urgency.

  • Must work effectively in a team environment.

  • Must be familiar with the local geographic area.

  • Be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.

Scope Data:

  • Work under general supervision and guidance.

  • Accountable for individual accuracy.

  • Shared responsibility for outgoing inventory.

  • Exemplify Interstate’s Purpose and Values.

Work Environment:

  • Exposed to battery warehouse conditions such as moving equipment, mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Regularly required to use hands to grasp, handle, stand, and walk.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs. without assistance

  • Ability to sustain extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day

  • Prolonged use of computer and telephone

  • Use of PPE required (steel toe boots, safety glasses, protective gloves, etc.)
