About the Team:

Nicola Wealth Private Capital manages approximately $4 billion in alternative investment funds across Private Equity, Venture Capital, Private Debt, Mortgages and Infrastructure Equity (the “Funds”). 

Our Private Capital team has the flexibility and expertise to invest the Funds in direct investments, co-investments or fund investments to provide our investors with truly diversified exposure beyond the public markets. 
 
For more information please visit: https://nicolawealth.com/private-capital. The Portfolio Monitoring team is responsible for the ongoing monitoring and assessment of existing portfolio investments, performance reporting and analytics, cash modelling and management, and risk management. 

Purpose of the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead the optimization of portfolio monitoring processes and procedures across Private Capital. Creating scalability and consistency across the private capital platform is vital to support ongoing growth of the Private Capital business and to continue meeting the diverse needs of a growing client base. 

The Director, Portfolio Analytics and Reporting will be responsible for leading the Portfolio Monitoring team and establishing a consistent approach, processes, use of systems and reporting for portfolio monitoring across all verticals. 
 
The location of this role will be a hybrid work schedule based in either our Toronto or Vancouver office.

Core Responsibilities:

Process Optimization

  • Lead the creation of a centralized Private Capital Portfolio Monitoring team, scaling the operational needs of the investment teams.
  • Establish appropriate processes and systems to drive consistent reporting, cashflow forecasting and cash management, portfolio and risk analytics, internal and external presentations, etc.
  • Ensure new processes and practices are adopted by investment teams, and appropriate documentation is in place.
  • Coordinate the execution of marketing content, facilitating engagement with the appropriate internal stakeholders (Marketing, Compliance etc.

Leadership

  • Lead the implementation and adoption of systems that improve the investment process for Private Capital, for example, the new IBOR (SimCorp Dimensions).
  • Day to day leadership and oversight of the portfolio monitoring team.
  • Collaborate within Private Capital across verticals and with Business Management and Leadership to ensure successful delivery of objectives.
  • Collaborate and provide a critical connection point between Private Capital and other teams across the firm including Fund Administration, Asset Management Operations, Marketing, etc.

Portfolio Monitoring

  • Monitor the performance of existing investments across all strategies.
  • Assists in the asset management of active investments and the preparation of regular investment commentary.
  • Analyze monthly/quarterly financial statements and other reporting for existing investments.
  • Conduct research and due diligence on industry trends and developments that may impact existing investments.
  • Liaise with third parties to assist with executing and rebalancing of hedging positions.
  • Provide analysis for existing and prospective clients through request for proposals ("RFPs").
  • Prepare scenario analysis as guided by the investment teams.
  • Supporting the investment teams on closing and funding new investments.
  • Forecast and report on KPIs to senior management (AUM, deployment, waitlists, cash positions etc.), deal activity and other investment related metrics.
  • Build streamlined reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assisting with preparation of investment committee presentations.
  • Identify/manage operational risks and improve processes.
  • Other relevant and related responsibilities, as assigned and as the needs of the organization change.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in business/accounting/finance.
  • A minimum of 10 years of front or middle-office experience in private markets, portfolio monitoring, risk management or another relevant field.
  • You have experience establishing new processes and effectively implementing and adopting enterprise systems to create scalable solutions.
  • You have a passion for Asset Management, driving operational effectiveness and portfolio monitoring.
  • You have an exceptional understanding of performance measurement and portfolio analytics.
  • Proven credit or equity investment monitoring and risk assessment skills.
  • You have proven ability to lead others to achieve high performance.

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • You have exceptional attention to detail and project management skills.
  • You are calm and collaborative under pressure.
  • CFA, CPA, MBA, or CBV (either completed or in progress) is considered an asset.
  • Experience across credit and equity markets and strategies is considered an asset.
  • You are legally eligible to work in Canada for any employer.

Compensation & Benefits Package:

This position comes with a base salary range of $150,000 - $200,000 plus a competitive performance bonus and participation in our profit-sharing program. Base salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
