We’re looking for a dynamic, business development and client-focused leader to champion our brand and solutions across Western Canada. As Director of Institutional Business Development & Client Relations, you’ll be at the forefront of building deep, strategic relationships with investment consultants, group retirement advisors, and plan sponsors—driving growth and elevating SLGI’s presence in the institutional investment space.

This is more than a business development and client relations role — it’s a chance to shape the future of retirement solutions in Eastern Canada, working alongside top-tier teams across SLGI, Sun Life Group Retirement Services (GRS), and SLC Management.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Growth & Relationship Leadership

  • Develop and execute annual business plans to drive pipeline growth, close sales, and strengthen Client retention across Western Canada.
  • Build and manage a coverage strategy for investment consultants and group plan advisors.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities with plan sponsors, in partnership with internal teams (GRS Client Relations, Business Development and Investment Solutions Teams, and SLC Management) to.

Market Engagement & Thought Leadership

  • Amplify SLGI’s brand visibility through regional roadshows, client events, and strategic communications.
  • Deliver compelling presentations at pension and investment committee meetings, showcasing the value of SLGI’s solutions—including Sun Life Delegated DC offering.
  • Collaborate with fellow regional Directors to achieve national sales goals.

Client Experience Excellence

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to our largest plan sponsors—ensuring proactive engagement and annual touchpoints.
  • Respond swiftly to RFPs, information requests, and ad hoc inquiries with support from our Client & Sales Support team.
  • Lead quarterly training sessions for Financial Services Consultants of the Sun Life Client Solution Center to keep our internal teams aligned and informed.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of proven success in institutional business development and client relationship management.
  • Deep understanding of investment products, pension plans, and the group retirement landscape.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and presentation skills.
  • Strategic mindset with a passion for solving client challenges and driving results.
  • Proficiency in tools like Salesforce and eVestment.
  • Bilingual (French & English) – essential for engaging with clients and partners across Eastern Canada.

Your Background

  • University degree in business, finance, or a related field.
  • CFA and/or ASA designation is a strong asset.
  • Licensing as required for specific markets.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
