Role:


Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, the Director of Human Resources, Primary Division functions as the key point of contact for department managers in our seven primary processing facilities across Canada. A true HR generalist, the Director of Human Resources will lead the human resource function for the primary division, fostering a positive work environment, managing labour relations, and ensuring compliance with all HR policies and regulations. They will be a trusted leader within our team, collaborating effectively within the organization, working to distinguish Sunrise Farms as the employer of choice within our space. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the HR operations at our seven primary processing division, working out of our Surrey processing plant
  • Act as the key point of contact for employees in our primary processing division for all matters related to labour relations, employee experience, and people programs, applying knowledge of employment standards, internal policies and guidelines, and best practices
  • Serve as the liaison between management and union, working to build and maintain a positive relationship
  • Lead union negotiations and the collective bargaining process
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues and grievances
  • Manage a team of 11 HR professionals across the primary division, coaching leaders on employee relations and day-to-day HR issues
  • Advise and make recommendations to Chief People Officer on best practices in the areas of labour relations, engagement, and development
  • Support gathering and submitting information required for customer social audits
  • Assist in the rollout and successful adoption of any new or reshaped people programs, strategic initiatives, tools, and policies
  • Support the development and implementation of the internal communication strategy; monitor programs and make recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource legislative requirements; conducting investigations and maintaining records
  • Assist department managers with performance issues within their teams

Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in a Human Resources leadership role
  • Extensive experience in managing labour relations and unionized environments
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating contracts with unions
  • Ability to effectively oversee multiple projects, tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Reliable person of integrity who inspires confidence and carefully manages confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive both independently and in a team environment, taking initiative wherever possible
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Dayforce would be an asset

Please note that the expected new hire salary range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sunrise Farms. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
