An amazing opportunity exists for an experienced attorney to join Capital One's Consumer & Small Business Legal team. In this business counsel role, you will support two critical and innovative parts of the Retail Bank, the Consumer Protection (CP) and Enterprise Payments (EP) businesses. You will have a seat at the table alongside senior business leaders as we refine our fraud and payments strategies and be a key stakeholder on mission critical imperatives such as real time payments.
Our Customer Protection (CP) organization are our fraud fighters - you will partner with the business to navigate our fraud strategy in response to current trends and a quickly changing regulatory landscape. Our Enterprise Payments (EP) organization manages all payment rails and money movement for the entire enterprise - you will partner with the business on all issues pertaining to Capital One money movement and help influence Capital One and the industry's future payment strategies. And you'll do it all in a collaborative, supportive environment that values your insight, promotes continuous learning, and rewards strategic and creative thinking.
As business counsel, you will:

• Provide day-to-day business counsel advice and support to the CP and EP organizations within the retail bank
• Partner closely with other Compliance and Risk advisors to drive comprehensive and consistent support
• Partner internally with other business counsel and legal subject matter experts to drive consistency and best practices across Capital One's lines of business
• Collaborate with our in-house Retail Bank Litigation team to manage relevant litigation matters
• Manage and coordinate outside counsel in an effective and efficient manner
• Review and enhance associate-facing policies and procedures
• Review and enhance customer-facing communications
• Assist in monitoring and supervision of key third-party relationships

Basic Qualifications:

• Juris Doctorate with state bar admission
• At least 8 years of law firm, government or in house legal department experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years experience working within the financial service industry
• 10+ years experience working on consumer regulatory matters
• Specific familiarity with UDAAP, Reg E, Reg CC, NACHA, UCC Articles 3 and 4, BSA/AML/KYC, Privacy, etc.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Asst General Counsel
Richmond, VA: $205,400 - $234,400 for Director, Asst General Counsel
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
