As a Design Assistant, you supportthe creation of design and product solutions that are in line with Veilance design philosophies and our guests’ evolving needs. You bring your curiosity and passion for product to support the team in building innovative, relevant and resolved products for the Veilance line. 

This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is expected to be performed on-site. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

If you were the Design Assistant now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • Supporting Design team members to build fully resolved garments by sewing muslins, creating physical mock-ups, technical drawings, patterns, operating procedure documents, material and trim information details, and gathering reference samples for handovers 
  • Managing and recording adhesive validation on new materials, both internally and externally 
  • Preparing internal and external presentations and content 
  • Tracking product development from concept through to base size approval, keeping clear and accurate design notes of each stage in Product Line Management (PLM) software
  • Collaborating with the team to develop an understanding of Veilance products, design processes, and commercialization processes.
  • Supporting in the creation of methods that further enable efficiency in our design processes 
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of all Design Assistant responsibilities against product creation calendars 
  • Understanding the product development calendar, taking direction and anticipating the needs of the design team at stage gates

  • Contributing creatively to each step of the process, through initial design direction, details, product concept, and presentation 
  • Contributing creatively to the long-term plan for Veilance product
  • Partnering with the Product Development team to evolve the way we bring innovative ideas to production 
  • Developing your design and construction skills to improve Veilance products, from initial testing through to customer experience 

Are you our next Design Assistant?

  • You have a Degree in Design (Apparel, Industrial or Textile Engineering) and 2+ years’ experience working in the apparel industry
  • You have a solid understanding of sewing, garment construction, pattern making, and design processes 
  • You possess a developed design sensibility 
  • You are a resourceful team player, with the ability to take direction, make decisions and work with minimal supervision towards a common goal 
  • You have basic knowledge of CLO3D, Adobe Illustrator, and/or Gerber, or the equivalent patterning software 
  • You are eager to learn, curious and open-minded to new ways of working 
  • You have technical and creative skills to make patterns and sew prototypes 
  • You are a creative problem solver, with excellent time management, planning and organization skills 
  • You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement 
  • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity 
  • You are able to balance autonomy and collaboration
