THE OPPORTUNITY  

BCI is hiring a Database Administrator II to join our Technology team and play a key role in managing the database infrastructure that supports our operations. This is an opportunity to work with enterprise-scale systems while advancing your career in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment. 

You’ll progressively take on more complex challenges, including implementing strategic database changes, deploying upgrades and patches, developing robust automation scripts, and optimizing performance across multiple environments. Collaboration with seasoned DBAs and cross-functional Technology teams will give you exposure to diverse database platforms while contributing to high-impact projects that demand both technical excellence and business acumen. 

This role is based in either our Victoria or Vancouver office, with occasional travel between the two locations. 

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH  

As part of BCI’s Technology team, you’ll join a group of professionals dedicated to delivering secure, scalable, and modern digital capabilities that support the organization’s long-term strategy. You’ll collaborate with experienced DBAs, infrastructure specialists, and application teams focused on building and maintaining reliable data platforms for investment operations and enterprise services. 

 

You’ll also collaborate with business users and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, respond to database requests, and support the deployment of changes. The team values continuous improvement and knowledge sharing, working together to ensure BCI’s data environment remains resilient and aligned with evolving business needs.

WHAT YOU BRING  
  • A minimum of three years of related experience in database development, administration, and support 

  • Demonstrated ability in database administration, development, security management, and backup/recovery operations 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills 

  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member 

  • Proven capacity to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously 

  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to contribute effectively in a team environment 

  • Experience working with Azure SQL Database, MS SQL Server, Oracle, and other database technologies 

  • Relevant database certification(s) and experience with complex financial systems and cloud-based database technologies are considered assets 

WHAT YOU WILL DO  
  • Support and maintain Azure SQL and MS SQL Server environments in alignment with architectural standards 

  • Assist in creating and managing BCI databases and servers 

  • Monitor system performance, query throughput, and backup jobs 

  • Execute on-demand backups, data restores, and refreshes as required 

  • Implement database changes in accordance with change management protocols 

  • Respond to alerts and troubleshoot issues, escalating when necessary 

  • Provide timely support for database-related requests and tickets 

  • Install and update SQL Server instances, including applying patches and fixes 

  • Document and communicate database maintenance activities 

  • Apply security best practices, including least privilege and access controls 

  • Ensure compliance with ITSM processes and participate in disaster recovery testing 

  • Maintain accurate and accessible technical documentation 

  • Contribute to special projects and other related duties as required 

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

This role can be based in either our Vancouver or Victoria office. BCI is an in-person, collaborative organization, with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week. 

SALARY RANGE  

The annualized base salary range for this role is CAD $90,000 – 109,000. 

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
