Job Summary:

Altus Group's Vancouver Development Advisory Team needs a Cost Consultant for the Cost Planning group. The Director, Cost Planning will oversee your work with the team on various asset types and accounts. You will join a team of consultants to deliver cost consulting services efficiently and drive projects to completion. This covers client delivery, company development, and technical competence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct quantity surveying and cost planning activities on construction projects in British Columbia and occasionally help projects in other Canadian and US regions.

  • Review and interpret design documents to measure and quantify building elements, apply appropriate pricing, prepare Class D to Class A estimates (conceptual to detailed estimate stages), tender reviews, and change order reviews within deadlines.

  • Utilize benchmarking data to analyze project estimates, including unit rates and costs for assets, facilities, and structures.

  • Assess and apply appropriate level of detail to estimates given information provided.

  • Conduct technical reviews and quality assurance of reports provided by others to ensure billable quality before client delivery.

  • Contribute to collection, analysis, and interpretation of cost and schedule data.

  • Communicate with clients and handle issues quickly and professionally.

  • Contribute to new customer acquisition and long-term client relationships to increase income through repeat business and referrals. 

  • Provide accurate and timely internal timesheets to support client invoice creation.

Key Qualifications: 

  • Post Secondary Technical Diploma in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Sciences, Construction, Quantity Surveying, or similar subjects.

  • CIQS Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), Construction Estimator Certified (CEC), or RICS Member (MRICS).

  • 3+ years of expertise in Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Construction, or Project Management. Possess a good understanding of the cost management consulting and advisory industry.

  • Understanding of local / provincial construction, including commercial, institutional, multi-family residential, and public sector projects, as well as owners, contractors, sub-trades, contracts, Lien Acts, pricing, and measurement methods.

  • Knowledge of CIQS Elemental Estimating and MasterFormat (Divisional) formats estimate preparation.

  • Proficient with MS Office, CostX, and other computer-based measurement and estimating software.

  • Skilled in working independently and collaboratively on many tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong communication abilities, including report writing and presentation.

  • Self-motivated with strong integrity, honesty, and work ethics.
