Change.org is searching for a Communications Manager to identify, support, and amplify some of the most compelling citizen-driven campaigns for press, social media and email, across Canada. You will report to our Communications Director. As a key member of our Communications Team, you’ll build and lead a high-performing team, increase awareness of Change.org among key audiences, and dominate media and social platforms through brand-aligned storytelling.

From mobilizing over 5 million people to investigate the fires in the Amazon, to mobilizing nearly 3 million against war and famine in Yemen, to large-scale mobilizations for the people of Iran and against the war in Ukraine, and calling for Racial Justice in the US, many movements were born on Change.org. Key Outcomes: 

  • Build and lead a high-performing campaigns and communications squad, with clear roles, effective delegation, and alignment on priorities that support organizational goals. 
  • Increase awareness of Change.org and the campaigns on the platform among key audiences. Consistently identify, support, and drive the most biggest people power campaign moments, generating strong reach, and wide amplification across both social and traditional media, centering our amazing petition starters.
  • Dominate media and social platforms through brand-aligned storytelling that centers petition starters and their campaigns, consistently driving strong reach and visibility.Build and sustain strong relationships with key journalists, influencers, and partners to enhance both the immediate reach of campaigns and the long-term visibility of the platform.
  • Organise and publicise petition deliveries and other campaign stunts, and engage with some of the most important elected officials and decision-makers.
  • Grow awareness of Change.org and the campaigns on our platform among media and decision-makers
  • Engage Change.org’s email audience with timely, impactful, and high-performing content.
  • Maintain a campaign portfolio that is strongly aligned with brand principles and reflects ideological diversity, fostering trust and openness across a wide range of audiences.

The most important core competencies for the role are:

  • Team Leadership: Proven ability to recruit, build, and lead high-performing teams with clarity, inspiration, and care.
  • Strong understanding of how to organise campaigns for social change and getting the attention of decision-makers. Deep understanding of how to drive political agenda setting.
  • Existing connections with key journalists, influencers, civil society, elected officials, politicians, who could help tell the story of the people who come to Change.org to take action.
  • Strategic mindset, with innovative ideas around how to use digital campaigning to power and win local and national campaigns.
  • Extremely strong written and oral communication skills in Canadian English, with experience writing press pitches, marketing emails and social content.
  • Willingness to work across differences, including providing support to policy-compliant campaigns that you may not agree with, but that align with Change.org’s democratic commitment to being an open platform.
  • Demonstrates strong autonomy by proactively identifying opportunities for improvement, taking ownership of tasks, and driving projects to completion with minimal supervision.

Target experience: 

  • 3-6 years working in social organizing, campaigning or advocacy
  • 7+ years working in communications

This is a full time role open to folks based in Alberta, British Columbia, or Ontario.


Our compensation philosophy is based on pay equity. All of our salaries are determined before we launch a role – they are based on a predetermined salary scale, the level on that scale and the cost of labor for that location. The annual salary of a Communications Manager is $122,000 CAD in Victoria & Calgary, $131,500 CAD in Vancouver & Toronto, and  $120,000 CAD in all other locations.
