Job Description

AECOM is seeking two Commercial Managers to join our team, with opportunities based out of our Mississauga, Burnaby, or Calgary offices.

The Commercial Manager is a critical leadership role, providing commercial oversight and support on large, complex projects—particularly those delivered through alternative methods. Working closely with the Project Manager and/or Design Manager, and reporting to the Director, Major Project Delivery (Water), this role is pivotal to project success—bridging technical delivery and business outcomes.

The Commercial Manager also partners with key corporate functions to support project execution. The primary focus is to ensure strong financial outcomes, effective risk management, and high-quality delivery. You’ll play a key role in protecting project value, managing change, and enabling project teams to stay focused on execution.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive project financial performance, including revenue, margin, and cash flow
  • Proactively manage risk, contracts, and potential claims to protect project and company interests
  • Lead change management processes, ensuring scope and schedule impacts are identified, priced, and resolved early
  • Partner closely with Project and Design Managers to support commercial matters and enable efficient project delivery
  • Provide oversight of contracts, forecasting, and performance tracking across the project lifecycle
  • Support contract negotiations and ensure compliance with governance, legal, and risk frameworks
  • Collaborate with corporate teams (finance, legal, HR, risk) to support project success
  • Build strong relationships with clients, partners, and subcontractors

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, architecture, business, law, or construction management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in Engineering or Construction, Alternative Delivery (Design-Build, P3, CMGC, CMAR, etc.) project management, project controls, and staff leadership.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in engineering or construction, including alternative delivery projects (Design-Build, P3, CMGC, CMAR), with strong leadership and commercial management on complex projects
  • Proven experience negotiating contracts, developing terms and conditions, and managing change orders and disputes
  • Strong understanding of procurement models, contracting approaches, and professional services frameworks
  • Solid knowledge of project management, controls, estimating, and financial management on large projects
  • Skilled in negotiation, financial analysis, commercial reporting, and risk mitigation
  • Strong communicator with the ability to clearly convey project performance to senior stakeholders

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
