Perplexity is seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to help build the Enterprise AI Assistant that transforms the way teams work. In this role, you’ll translate cutting-edge AI advances into robust, scalable, and secure backend services.

Tech Stack: Python | Docker | AWS | TypeScript

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services that power our enterprise-focused AI Assistant.
  • Implement APIs and integrations to connect with third-party enterprise tools and knowledge bases.
  • Build scalable infrastructure to support multi-tenancy, admin controls, and enterprise analytics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, and Frontend) to deliver end-to-end features.
  • Ensure best practices for security, authentication, and compliance in enterprise environments.
  • Contribute to 0-1 initiatives that drive Perplexity’s enterprise capabilities at scale.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of industry experience in software engineering with a strong emphasis on backend development.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with containerization (Docker) and AWS services.
  • Track record of building and maintaining high-performance, distributed systems for SaaS products.
  • Deep understanding of authentication and security best practices for enterprise applications.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Experience using data to drive decisions and optimize backend performance.
  • Passion for creating scalable, reliable solutions that empower enterprise customers.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with AI/RAG-powered applications.
  • Experience integrating with large-scale search, retrieval systems, or enterprise APIs.
  • Experience with Grafana and Datadog for monitoring and alerting.
  • Knowledge of enterprise compliance, authentication, and security frameworks.
  • Exposure to front-end technologies (Next.js, TypeScript) and an interest in full-stack collaboration.
  • Experience with enterprise FGA (Fine-Grained Authorization) and RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) systems.

The cash compensation range for this role is $180,000 - $260,000.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above. 

Equity: In addition to the base salary, equity is part of the total compensation package.
