About the Job:

LaunchDarkly is seeking a Mid-Level Backend Engineer (L3) to join our Metrics Team, which powers the analytical backbone of our product offerings. This team plays a pivotal role in enabling features like Experimentation, Guarded Releases, and Error Monitoring by creating seamless and robust ways for users to capture and analyze metrics.

As an L3 Backend Engineer, you will contribute to the design and implementation of high-performance, scalable systems that process and analyze large volumes of data. You’ll work closely with our talented engineers, designers, and product managers to tackle challenging technical problems, mentor junior team members, and ensure the success of our metrics infrastructure. This role offers opportunities for leadership in project development, driving technical solutions, and influencing the evolution of our backend architecture.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment, is passionate about backend development, and has a proven ability to deliver impactful solutions to complex problems. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Backend Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems that process metrics and event data with a focus on performance and reliability.
  • Data Integration: Develop and maintain robust integrations with data sources like Snowflake and telemetry systems like OpenTelemetry to ensure efficient data ingestion and processing.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, helping to elevate the overall skillset of the team.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to ideate, create tech specs, and deliver impactful features for analytical tools.
  • Problem Solving: Address and resolve complex technical challenges related to data ingestion, storage, and processing with innovative and pragmatic solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze system performance and customer feedback to drive optimizations for scalability, cost-efficiency, and user experience.
  • Code Excellence: Maintain high standards of code quality, including clear documentation, thorough testing, and comprehensive code reviews to ensure maintainability and scalability.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 4+ years of experience in backend development, including expertise in building and maintaining APIs and large-scale data pipelines.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Go (preferred) or similar programming languages. Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake).
  • Metrics & Observability: Hands-on experience with observability tools, APM products, and telemetry systems like OpenTelemetry. Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and take ownership of projects, driving them from conception to production.
  • Problem-Solving Expertise: Demonstrated track record of solving complex technical problems, designing scalable systems, and delivering customer-facing solutions.
  • Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills with experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Hybrid Work Readiness: Enthusiasm for participating in our hybrid work environment, with an in-office presence in Oakland and San Francisco.

This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on products that empower LaunchDarkly customers. Join us in shaping the future of observability and analytics at LaunchDarkly!

About LaunchDarkly:

Modern software delivery was supposed to be the foundation for a thriving digital business but reality has proven otherwise. The LaunchDarkly platform helps developers innovate on new features faster while protecting them with a safety valve to instantly rewind when things go wrong. Developers can target product experiences to any customer segment and maximize the business impact of every feature. And by gradually rolling out new application components, they escape nightmare "big-bang" technology migrations.

The LaunchDarkly platform was built to guide engineers to the next frontier of DevOps by:

  • Improving the velocity and stability of software releases, without the fear of end customer outages
  • Delivering targeted experiences by easily personalizing features to customer cohorts
  • Maximizing the business impact of every feature through the ability to experiment and optimize
  • Coordinating the release and optimization of software to provide consistent experiences across mobile platforms and device types
  • Improving the effectiveness and productivity of engineering teams, by providing insights into engineering cadence and stability
