Position Overview
We’re looking for a backend developer to build the services and infrastructure powering our AI products. You’ll design APIs, orchestrate AI/LLM integrations, and ensure our systems are scalable, reliable, and fast.
This is a hybrid role requiring at least 3 days in office.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs.
- Integrate and orchestrate AI/LLM providers and models — API integrations, prompt pipelines, retrieval, and vector search.
- Build data pipelines and manage storage, including vector databases and search infrastructure.
- Ensure performance, scalability, observability, and reliability of AI-driven systems.
- Handle streaming responses, rate limiting, caching, and cost optimization for model usage.
- Collaborate with frontend and ML teams; participate in code reviews and architecture decisions.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go, or Java)
- Hands-on experience building AI/ML-powered systems (LLM API integration, RAG pipelines, model serving, or similar)
- Experience designing and building REST APIs (and/or streaming/WebSocket APIs)
- Solid understanding of databases (SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling
- Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Legally authorized to work in Canada and able to commute to Vancouver for hybrid work
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with vector databases (Pinecone, Elasticsearch, pgvector, Weaviate) and semantic search
- Familiarity with RAG, embeddings, and prompt engineering
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of message queues and event-driven architecture
- Experience managing LLM cost, latency, and observability in production
