You will be expected to regularly write a variety of stories on deadline with authority and context. The reporter will work collaboratively with Globe reporters and editors to ensure The Globe is ahead of other media for news, analysis and features concerning the most pressing developments and issues in Western Canada’s business scene.

  • Develop and maintain sources in business and government, including key players in the energy industry, to deliver exclusive news and insight
  • Write clearly and concisely on deadline
  • Work with colleagues across Report on Business and wider newsroom to generate story ideas and enrich The Globe’s coverage
  • Think beyond standard storytelling formats and participate in Globe subscriber events

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years experience as a reporter in a daily news organization
  • Solid news judgment with a track record of enterprise work
  • Ability to cultivate sources to break news and get inside key issues
  • Familiarity with political reporting and economics
  • Strong writing with versatile range - from hard news to human-interest feature to explanatory
  • Comfortable working in a variety of formats, including live blogs, newsletters, video and audio

This position is based in the Vancouver office and requires a minimum of two days a week in office. Must be willing to travel to Alberta regularly.
APPLICATION: Please include a cover letter, with several links to your best previous work, along with your resume (that is written by you, not AI). Our promise to readers is that the best work comes from our own (human) curiosity and creativity - we’d like to see yours.
