As a frontier tech company scaling globally, we need a sharp, hands-on Accounting Manager to anchor our accounting function and help us grow with precision and confidence.

This role will lead a team of eight, own the month-end close, drive financial reporting, and help shape our accounting infrastructure. This is a Vancouver-based hybrid position, with some in-office work required.
PREPARE FOR IMPACT!
Reporting to the Controller and working closely with other members of the Finance team, both in the Vancouver corporate office and globally, the Accounting Manager is a hands-on role responsible for the oversight of the accounting team’s day-to-day activities, providing mentorship and guidance. At the corporate head office, this role ensures timely and accurate financial reporting, audit & tax compliance and assists with financial planning & analysis. Globally, the Accounting Manager works closely with the subsidiary accounting team to ensure accuracy and timeliness of month-end results, US GAAP and head office accounting policies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead, mentor, supervise and develop a team of 4 senior accountant direct reports and 4 staff
- Manage chart of accounts and general ledgers, ensuring accuracy and appropriate controls over accounting transactions; ensure appropriate mapping of new accounts within financial statements line items
- Review and approve transactions, working papers and reconciliations prepared by the accounting team
- Analyze accounting impact of new contracts, financings and other transactions, adoption of new accounting standards, and prepare technical accounting memos where required
- Lead the month-end close in NetSuite and FloQast, FX translation and assess completeness of close; performs detailed analysis & review of subsidiary results for accuracy and completeness
- Deliver complete, accurate and timely monthly comparative financial statements with departmental break down for management reporting
- Ensure accurate consolidation of the Company’s international operations Perform detailed review of variance analysis of monthly results, document and correct for discrepancies identified before management deck is prepared Prepare or review memos or analysis of technical accounting matters and ensure all technical accounting areas sufficiently addressed, documented and reported, as needed
- Preparation of monthly executive summary/MD&A style analysis of financial statements
- Manage annual external reporting process, including preparation of financial statements & note disclosures in accordance with US GAAP
- Ensure audit compliance on technical accounting matters & reporting; liaising with auditors and negotiating significant matters/findings
- Assist with review of corporate tax returns, ensuring compliance and providing backup to external tax advisors
- Review transfer pricing transactions, management fee calculations and year-end tax note WP & disclosure
- Develop and document internal control processes
- Additional activities in support of and in collaboration with other Finance functions as required
YOUR PAST MISSIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- CPA designation required
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2-3 years of experience in an accounting manager capacity
- Experience in which you have a developed a deep understanding of project accounting and management reporting; or,
- An equivalent combination of experience/education/designations will be considered
- Experience with ERPs / other project accounting software required (Netsuite an asset)
- Experience with government grants and SR&ED is an asset
- Public company experience is an asset
YOUR TOOLKIT
- Strong people management skills with the proven ability to grow and coach a high performing accounting team
- Good knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS, particularly with respect to revenue recognition, capitalization of R&D, and government funding
- Advanced Excel skills, with expertise in building large Excel spreadsheets and maintaining them
- Experience with consolidation and multi-currency environment
- Experience with preparing complex technical accounting memos
- Experience with quarterly and annual audit engagements
- Experience with documentation of internal controls
- Experience working in project environment
- Prior experience with month-end closings, journal entries, reconciliations and AR/AP is required
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work in a start-up environment and “pitch-in” where necessary
- Self-motivated, resourceful, results-driven professional with the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Skilled in using MS CoPilot, Chat GPT for Business, or comparable Ai's in increasing productivity and quality of work
YOUR COMPENSATION
Base Salary Range: $120,000-$140,000
This range is based on Vancouver, BC-derived compensation for this role. The selected candidate's compensation will be determined based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, education, and location.
