New Market Funds (NMF) is an ImpactAssets 50 manager and Certified B Corp company. They are a multi-fund impact investment fund manager with offices in Vancouver and Toronto. THE OPPORTUNITY
The Accounting Manager will report to the Controller and will focus primarily on managing NCD (New Commons Development) accounting operations, month-end closings, and providing critical documentation and process improvement support. The ideal candidate will be a strong senior accountant ready to step into a management role, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with our finance team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
● NCD Management: Take full ownership of New Commons Development accounting operations and reporting
● Monthly Financials – Support the month end closings for our 4 other operating entities as well as the multi-family residential buildings owned by our non-profit housing society
● Process Documentation: Shadow and document existing accounting procedures and workflows to create comprehensive SOPs
● Project Accounting: Manage complex real estate project accounting including cost tracking, revenue recognition, and project-specific reporting
● Audit Support – You will assist in the preparation of working papers, supporting schedules and support the finance team and auditors throughout annual audits and review engagements of all legal entities
● Reporting – You will support the Controller and CFO in producing a wide range of reports (financial and non-financial) for staff, boards and investors, including budget vs. actuals, cash flow projections, portfolio summaries and high-level dashboards
● Special Projects – You will support the finance team in responding to new investor diligence questions, collaborate with the team on investment and loan closings, and other ad hoc projects that are driven from internal and external stakeholders.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
● Support audit processes and liaise with external auditors
● Assist with treasury and cash flow management as needed
● Collaborate with operations teams using appropriate communication channels
● Provide analytical support for business decision-making
● Mentor and support junior accounting staff as the team grows
QUALIFICATIONS
● CPA designation required
● Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on project accounting experience, specifically in real estate development
● Strong Month-End Close and reporting experience
● Solid understanding of Canadian GAAP and regulatory requirements
● Audit Background: Previous experience as an external auditor with strong understanding of documentation, controls, and compliance requirements, is an asset but not a requirement
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, and experience with ERPs or other accounting software.
● Bilingual in French and English is an asset but is not required.
● Some IT experience is an asset (to potentially support the back end of our ERP, Netsuite as well as to streamline our processes using AI) but not required.

NMF will provide a professional and rewarding working environment with the opportunity for career growth and expects the salary to range between $95,000 - $105,000 for the right candidate, commensurate with experience.
